The "Lost" Diary -- Cabin Fever

LostHey, Daniel from TMZ here -- welcome to another edition of the "Lost" Diary.

I've had a really hard time writing this part of the Diary and I think that goes back to the fact that I have had a hard time putting my finger on this season. Flashforwards are unpredictable, the Losties are spread out in many different places, the Freighter is looming and Jacob is hanging over my head worse than final exams. I don't think I have had less of a clue of what is going to happen from week to week than I do now.

For all you "Lost" Diary newbies, here's how it goes: I gather with a group of friends watching "Lost," writing what happens on the show as it happens, and throwing in my two cents along the way. For the third week in a row, I am flying solo tonight -- I just can't stay up late enough to watch it with a whole group of people.

10:02 -- My clock says 10:02, but I think "Grey's Anatomy" is still on. I don't think I can handle Locke with McNickname.

10:03 -- "His name is John!" -- Locke's mom

10:04 -- Three minutes into the show and we have our first Locke/Ben scene. As far as I am concerned, that's a good sign for a good episode.

10:05 -- We're back on the freighter and frankly it's about time. Whatever happened with Michael?

10:06 -- As to be expected, Michael is chained to a pipe in a room. Seems like he got off easy ... til now.

10:07 -- Keamy pulled the trigger, there were bullets in the gun, but the gun didn't fire. Just saying.

10:12 -- Locke encounters Horace in the woods, building a cabin. You might remember Horace as the guy who was there when Ben was born, helped Ben's dad get a job with Dharma, and there was one other thing. What was it? Oh yeah -- he died in the Purge!!!

10:13 -- And he's completely aware of the fact he's dead. And now we know the Purge was 12 years ago.

10:14 -- "Godspeed, John." -- Horace. And it was all a dream. Yeah, right.

10:15 -- "I used to have dreams." -- Ben

10:16 -- A fairly innocuous scene about how even when Locke was in an incubator people treated him like crap has just been kicked up a gazillion notches because RICHARD WAS THERE!!! So many questions ...

10:17 -- "He did it." Locke explaining the Purge to Hurley. There's something about a mass grave that rubs me the wrong way. I just can't put my finger on it.

10:21 -- "Mind if I show you a couple of neat things?" -- Richard to Locke. I am pretty sure that's a line preferred by some of the finest pedophiles in all the land.

10:24 -- I stand by belief that any scene of "Lost" over two minutes is just phenomenal. This one was no exception. I wonder what those items mean in the grand scheme of things? The vial of sand could relate to the sand around Jacob's cabin. Not sure if I get the compass yet. Oh, and I'll have a theory about Alpert/Dharma later on.

10:25 -- Though I am willing to bet Locke will find the compass on Horace's body.

10:26 -- Nope, he just found cabin blueprints instead. Not sure how that helps.

10:27 -- So Keamy's a d**k, right? Anyway, he's picked up the secondary objective and he says that in it, Widmore explains where Ben is headed. Does Widmore know where the cabin is? How could he?

10:28 -- The captain, who seems on the level, now wants to help Sayid and Desmond. Next time Keamy leaves for the island, the captain should just sail off. That's what I'd do.

10:33 -- Every time Locke and Ben talk lately, I can't decide if Ben likes Locke or hates him. On the one hand, it's like Locke is now Jacob's new favorite and he's jealous. On the other, he sees Locke as being the person who can save him and island.

10:34 -- It's high school now and life still sucks for John Locke. Dr. Alpert has eye on Locke, but his guidance counselor keeps telling him what he can't be. What are the odds this scene ends with John saying, "Don't tell me what I can't do"?

10:35 -- "Don't tell me what I can't do!" -- Locke. Too easy.

10:36 -- What the hell are they strapping to Keamy? Prediction: Lawnmower Man takes one for the team and crashes that helicopter into a mountain or something.

10:37 -- With everything that has gone on, would you want to ride that little dinky boat back to the island? I'd take my chances on the freighter.

10:42 -- "Destiny is a fickle bitch." -- Ben. Someone has lost their mojo, big time.

10:43 -- "Cabin." -- Hurley

10:44 -- Giant leap forward in our flashback and Locke is in rehab. And the voice of that nurse can't get past me (thank you, "The Wire") -- it's Abaddon, the guy who visited Hurley in the mental ward and recruited all the Freighter people. Creepy.

10:45 -- "You need to go on a Walkabout." -- Abaddon to Locke

10:46 -- "When you're ready, Mr. Locke, you'll listen to what I'm saying. And then, when you and me run into each other again, you'll owe me one." -- Abaddon to Locke

10:49 -- After a tense stand-off on the boat, and the morse code message coming true, Lawnmower Man is going to fly Keamy and company back to the island. I stand by my prediction -- they never make it.

10:52 -- Back on the beach Jack has recovered nicely and everyone has gathered on the shore to watch the helicopter. I can't wait to see the look on their faces when it explodes.

10:53 -- Nope. Instead, Lawnmower Man throws them a sat phone so they can find Keamy. I like my idea better.

10:54 -- Hurley and Ben are passing on going into the cabin.

10:55 -- And do you know whose voice that is? It's Christian Shephard, but he says he ain't Jacob -- just his publicist.

10:56 -- CLAIRE!!!!!

10:57 -- "How do I save the island?" -- Locke

10:58 -- Great little scene between Hurley and Ben. Candy bars, bringing fat people and mass murders together for generations.

10:59 -- "He wants us to move the island." -- Locke. Sounds reasonable enough.

Everyone watches TV for a different reason. Me, I can't stand shows that wrap up their show in a neat little bow every week and solve the murder and everyone is happy. I like long-reaching story lines that last for awhile. I want my television to make me work a little bit.

At its best, "Lost" is that show (and then some). What I loved most about tonight's episode is that it focused entirely on the mythology of the show. Seeing Richard and Abaddon in Locke's flashbacks was awesome. Watching Locke and company search for the cabin was fantastic. This is the kind of episode I enjoy.

Thus, I am giving tonight's ep an A -- watching Ben react to Locke's journey tonight was fascinating. Seeing Richard again gave me goosebumps. I hope every episode from here on out focuses on the same kinds of things that tonight's did.

Here's my thing with Richard tonight (besides the fact he seemingly never ages). He was off the island. We have been told the submarine is the only way on and off the island, but Locke was a baby some 45 years ago and the Purge only happened 12 years ago. Didn't Dharma arrive on the island in the 70s? So shouldn't Richard not have had access to the sub yet? Is this proof there is another way off the island? Or am I missing something?

Anyway, here is my question to you this week -- Are you like me in that the more an episode of "Lost" delves into the mythology of the show, the better it is?

91. I think the biggest question is who is on who's side. I think that the Dharma Initiative was a program put togehter by Penelope's dad, Whitmore. He has lost control of the island and it's powers to Ben and the others. Since he has lost them he is willing to destroy the island becuase he is a control freak. Remember when he told Desmond that he wasn't good enough? He wants to control everything. Whitmore descovered the island but Ben took over, that can't happen! On a different note great episode, last weeks sucked! i'm sick of Jack! He's lost any appeal!

92. Remember in one episode, Richard came to ben in the jungle and said he was one of the others...and Richard helped ben plan the killings of all the Dharma people.....SO Richard HAS been there longer, and wasnt part of the Dharma initiative!!!

93. time travel. It is all related to time travel. that is how richard is everywhere at all different times and doesn't age. The island has been in a time loop over and over. Keeps going backwards or forward in time (the button pushing every 108 minutes. .. ). That is how Jacob wants Locke to "move" the island. By Move he means he wants them to get the time loop going again on the island so no one finds it . . . ..

94. this episode was off the hook i think it was very informative and the fact that claire is with her father clearly shows that she is dead!! and it cool how the knife they showed locke choosing as a child is the same knife naomi got killed with!!! it like all things he picked came back to him!!!

95. Remember that we weren't supposed to trust anything the boat captain said? Why did we miss out on the whole section where he decides to help Sayid and Desmond? When did he turn into a good guy...or did he. I have to assume Keemy is the bad guy but I wonder what the captain just got Sayid into by letting him leave on that boat.

I think John is with an adopted family in the middle of his life flashback.

John isn't dead--isn't he one of the people that can't die?

If Hurley is in on moving the island with John then if he does get off the island he would know how to get back to it. I like the theory that Sayid makes it back with a boat and the only people in his boat are the eventual "Oceanic 6" but one idea blows a hole in that--would you take Hurley on that dingy boat? Not being rude, I just don't see that as a likely scenario.

I learn a lot --that I miss from the hidden meanings, from this blog. Thanks.

Again, no more new characters!!! I nearly changed the channel when they introduced Horace. I now realize it wasn't the first time we've seen him but my mind can't get a grip on all this. Stick with our Losties and answer some questions!!

96. Last nights episode was not the best. I think that Jacod is God. Christian said that he could speak on the behalf of Jacob. I think that Claire is dead because Miles said that he saw her wander off into the forest, but remeber that Miles can talk and see the dead.

97. Remember that the captain gave Sayid the coordinates 305, the captain gave the MARINES the heading 325. Maybe Sayid was given the new coordinates after the island was 'moved' by Locke. Maybe the captain already knew the island was already moved. Does anybody see where this is going?

98. Remember the flashback when John was in High School and his teacher suggested that he went to a Science Camp, well maybe that Science Camp was Dharma.

99. Guys the doctor washes up on shore before he dies because time is a little off on the island, remember??? When they shot the little missile over from the freighter with the timer inside? Like 3 episodes ago I think? Anyways, I just started watching Lost about 6 months ago online and I am HOOKED. Just got caught up and you would think I would know what's going on but I'm so lost (no pun intended)!!! I LOVE IT!

101. Well Daniel, the engines are busted, therefore the captain can't sail away. Other than that, totally agree with your review this week. One more thing, it is obvious to me that the submarine is NOT the only way off the island (see Ben ending up in the middle of the desert puking, no sub). The casting director for this show is great! Another great find, Keamy. In earlier episodes, he was helpful and nice to Sayid and Desmond. Now he is ruthless killer and very good at it.

102. I loved this episode, but I also loved every lost epi to date!
Did anyone notice how Horace kept bleeding from his nose, and there was some weird time loop thing going on? Remember where we saw it last? Desmond's time travel! Bet Horace was bouncing back and forth in time to help out the people trying to save his island.
Also, Claire has bit the dust for sure. Her evil smile kind of creeped me out - What's with that???
Next week looks awesome - can't wait for Thursday!

103. Wow soo much to say I don't know where to start, ok Like last time I posted I didn't read every post I think I got thru about 80 this time.. here we go :
to the comment #17, there are two weeks worth of episdes left they are both considered to be the season finale. the writer's wanted a 3 hour finale so next week is on at 10pm the follwoing week is 2 hours and starts at 9. East coast time any way.
to comment #29 the first thing Calire says when she see's Chirstian in the jungle is "DAD?"

Now here are my thoughts and some of them have been touched on already.. Claire is definitly dead, sorry Claire fans, Dude her house was blown up and she got up like it was just the wind knocked outof her for a second. I thought that was cheeseyt at first but remember how Miles kept looking at her and Sawyer would get upset? Miles was not 'checking her out' in that sense I think he could sense something otherworldly emanating from her. That's why when Christain showed up and they took off together he let her go with out waking Sawyer or following. The baby can't be with them because the baby is still alive.

Next.. My DVR crapped out so I couldn't rewind it but i thought that was a dharma symbol on the covoer of the notes to where Ben Linus was heading that Kermy took out of the safe. THe papers were from Whidmore and this just kind of follows my theory that whidmore either helped to fund or was part of dharma somehow and this is why he believes the island blonged to him.
Also, when Locke was a child he was supposed to take the compas, it's the same compas from season 1 that Locke gave away, He lingered over it and either he wasn't ready or was a tad scared and that's why he took the knife.

as for comment #57 from Ventura, he is 100% right this whole season is about time travel and space time continuum. For those who don't like this season then you just don't get it. Richard doesn't look aged becaus he time travelled Ben can time travel and thats why he couldn't kill Whidmore in that scene it would mess up time some how. If you think I'm wrong jump on youtube and do a search for "orchid 6" you will see a dharma initiative video that shows how they had been expiramenting with time travel. Funny how when Ben lands in the desert his winter jacket has the same name as the doctor in that video. It's not a coincidence. I think this has been the best season yet. SO much has been explained and I love the flasforwards and the flash backs!

Nice Catch about Ben's Mom & Locke's mom having the same name. I bet they are brothers it would make perfect sense and the whole jealousy Ben has would just be the icing to a sibling rivalry. TO answer the comment from #80 that's not Emily that is whoever adopted Ben after. Remember Emily's Mom in the hospital said they were ready to give him up - thanks for readin my post I know it's wicked long this week! :) Lisa

104. Best episode in a long time. I think that Widmore founded Dharma or at least was it's biggest sponsor, and he was definitely on the island before. He had to be to have all these details about the island, where no one else does. He told Ben that he took something away that wasn't his to take. Lets not forget the whiskey that Desmond found on the island. It's Widmore's favorite and he's the only one shown drinking it. He also organized the race around the world that Desmond took part in when he found the island. Maybe that's how he first came across the island. Also, due to the magnetic properties of the island, I think that it's some kind of a black hole, that's why time seems different there. I also think that the only way to find the island is to not look for it, you can only get there by chance, if the island wants you there. Jack has enough info about the the island that he should be able to find it again, but he can't. These are just some of the random thoughts I had after this week's episode.

105. As someone mentioned, Sayid rescues the Oceanic 6 next week in the boat. Sawyer gives his spot to Kate but hands her Aaron and makes her promise to take care of him. However, because Aaron now exists in the "future", it somehow screws up Claire from being able to live in the future. Ultimately Jack learns this post-Island and the reason for his guilt outside the courtroom with Kate. By helping to raise Aaron post-island, Claire cannot exist post-island.
This makes sense if you are on board with th time loop theory
