Archuleta's Dad Banished from "Idol"

TMZ has learned David Archuleta's dad, Jeff, has been officially banned from "American Idol."

Here's how it went down. "Idol" sources tell TMZ Jeff has been a complete pain in the ass, interfering with the entire production. He has badgered producers, the band, vocal coaches and even other contestants. The final straw came this week, when Jeff wanted to change the lyrics to David's first song, "Stand By Me." Jeff insisted on adding a verse from Sean Kingston's hit, "Beautiful Girls." Producers sent him an e-mail telling him the lyrics could not be changed. They were beyond pissed when David sang the song with Kingston's lyrics during the live show.

We're told by changing the lyrics, it created problems with the song's publisher and cost "A.I." a lot of money.

Jeff was ordered to sit with "A.I." lawyers on Wednesday, who told him he was "banned from being in the rooms where David was learning or rehearsing his songs." It's "Idol's" position, since David is 17, he does not need a guardian -- just a teacher. Jeff will be allowed to sit in the audience during the live show but he's 86'd from anything backstage.

Sources say the other contestants were fed up with Jeff and didn't want him near them. Now they have their wish.

All in all, sources say Jeff is the stage dad from hell. BTW, he was banned on the set when David did "Star Search" a few years back.

47. David Cook is cute in a funny way. But he reminds me of so many other singers. I wonder why he hasn't made it as a singer on his own. I don't think I'd vote for him because he's just like a million other singers.

David Archuleta could make it in a lot of ways. He could be a male Miley Cyrus and make a kazillion dollars before he's 21. And wait and see when he is David Cook's age. I think he will be better. And his voice is so good and different from so many other singers. I think TMZ just writes dumb things that aren't true because people are so interested in David Archuleta.

50. I too have had the strange feeling that David is being totally controlled by Daddy and is scared to the bones of his father. I hope the child gets some VERY good counselor to help him get his feet grounded and be bale to realize that he is very talented without his stage daddy dictating his every move to him. As one person wrote David does look like a chihuahua shaking in its skin every week. He seems to be watching where his father is sitting to get the nod there will be no abuse after that performance.
David Archulotta needs a lot of prayers lifted up for him!!!!!

51. Vette, Cook didn't have the exposure that Archie has had. So my question is, why hasn't Archie gone anywhere off all that exposure from Star Search if he is so great?

54. Is it just me or is Dave not obviosly "special"? I don't think he even knows he's on American Idol much less remember when or if he ever sang anything! He doesn't need a dad like that but he does need some kind of "handler"! He's clearly at a disadvantage against the others or maybe he's workin' it like a Tijauna donkey!

57. David seems like he's always nervous and afraid and he lacks self-confidence. To me, I've always thought that he seems like he's been beaten or mentally abused since he was a small child. Sometimes parents don't realize the harm they're doing just by being totally controlling, but poor David seems like he's never sure if he performed good enough, and acts like he's going to get in big trouble. I personally like the kid and wish him well, but I think he's afraid of something or somebody. So sad to see.

58. This is really sad for David. His dad will make it so that he will never have a chance anywhere because no one will want to put up with his father. He is good for his age...So I think he will do well in his singing career.

60. David doesn't have the talent to win American Idol anyways. He'll be voted off next week and the American audience will send a message loud and clear to his dad Jeff. Do yourself a favor Jeff and butt out of your son's business. He doesn't need your help as he'll bomb all on his own .
