Farina Busted: Is That a Gun in Your Pocket...

Sources tell TMZ actor Dennis Farina was arrested at LAX this morning after trying to get through security with a loaded gun.

It happened at around 8 AM. Farina was flying out when he was nabbed at the security checkpoint. Sources say he told cops he had forgotten that the gun was in his carry-on luggage. It was a .22 caliber, semi-automatic pistol.

Farina was taken to LAPD's Pacific Division. He was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon.

Farina, 64, is in the movie, "What Happens in Vegas..."

UPDATE: Farina told cops he had the gun in his briefcase when he drove from Arizona to L.A. and forgot it was there. He was taking a flight from LAX to his home in Chicago. Farina was apologetic and cooperative with cops, telling them he was a retired Chicago Cop with 19 years on the job. But he had no apparent authority to carry a loaded pistol at the time of his arrest.

We're told the FBI interviewed Farina but declined prosecution because the locals were handling it.

Farina was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, a misdemeanor. His bail is set at $25,000. He's still in custody.

16. ""11. WTH is wrong with people? This is not the first time a celebrity has went through security with a gun in their luggage. It's happened a few other times. While I am mindful that I don't forget to put some liquids in a ziplock bag and take them out of my luggage -- there are people who actually "forget" they have a loaded gun on their person?

Are actors incredibly STUPID or do they think they can get away with things that us normal civilians can't?

What an idiot!

At least Dennis Farina probably knows enough to not go around saying "has went".

22. Hell, nowadays people would probably have been safer WITH him on the plane with a loaded weapon. I could care less. The fact he is a former cop makes me like him more.

23. I'm so sick of stupid celebrities, I could PUKE MY GUTS OUT!!

Posted at 3:37PM on May 11th 2008 by Celebrities are under-educated and over-rated

24. I think I am missing your point, Jennifer 2000. Teachers have had sex with students, priests with parishioners, doctors have amputated wrong limbs, etc. There are bad apples in every profession. Are you trying to say all cops abuse their authority?

25. CherDash...... I'm thinking that having a gun in a carry-on qualifies as being extremely more ignorant than making a grammatical error in an online comment. In reality, most actors/actresses are very ignorant. Many didn't even finish high school and most have never taken a college class in their lives. Put simply... they just aren't bright people. TMZ proves that every day.

26. raybones3, First of all... you do not know the guy personally. I know it makes you feel "big" to say that you know celebs personally, but you don't. Stop being crazy. Secondly, you'd have to be extremely ignorant or extremely drugged to forget you have a loaded gun on you.

You have a point, that Hollyweirders are not the brightest bulbs in the box. My point was, when you go around calling someone stupid, as that other poster did, you should watch what you are saying in the same post and not make yourself look stupid also.

28. Listen up ass guys a relative of mine, I do know him personally and he's neither ignorant or drugged up, so stick to something that you know what your doing instead of talking out of your ass----which is probably your sister you backward ass hick

annie 2 / " do you think all cops abuse authority ?

YES and No, not all;

however, they are the largest " gang " in los angeles.

further, cops are the ultimate player haters out there.

they will pull you over just to punk you WITHOUT probable cause.

short of them planting something, they do interrogate and toss your vehicle at will.

so, not all cops abuse their power, but MOST do " stretch " the long arm of the law beyond reasonable doubt.......

30. OMG. I'm almost sorry I checked back to see what comments have been posted. Dennis Farina is an excellent actor in my book, and a personal favorite for his role in "Law & Order". He is HUMAN. Yes, what he did was stupid. But who knows what his schedual has been like? He is promoting a new movie. I am sure that he has other things going on that we are unaware of. If any of us had to do 1/4 of the things that he does in one day, we may find that we have forgotten a thing or two, also. He was a cop for heaven's sake. Having a loaded gun in his briefcase or on his person is like breathing to him and he most likely did not give it a 2nd thought. Add that into most likely being sleep deprived, phone calls from his agent, etc., interviews, premieres, and bingo- there you have it. So the next time you loose your pot, or forget that you had that crack pipe in your pocket as you are being patted down...
