Farina Busted: Is That a Gun in Your Pocket...

Sources tell TMZ actor Dennis Farina was arrested at LAX this morning after trying to get through security with a loaded gun.

It happened at around 8 AM. Farina was flying out when he was nabbed at the security checkpoint. Sources say he told cops he had forgotten that the gun was in his carry-on luggage. It was a .22 caliber, semi-automatic pistol.

Farina was taken to LAPD's Pacific Division. He was booked on suspicion of carrying a concealed weapon.

Farina, 64, is in the movie, "What Happens in Vegas..."

UPDATE: Farina told cops he had the gun in his briefcase when he drove from Arizona to L.A. and forgot it was there. He was taking a flight from LAX to his home in Chicago. Farina was apologetic and cooperative with cops, telling them he was a retired Chicago Cop with 19 years on the job. But he had no apparent authority to carry a loaded pistol at the time of his arrest.

We're told the FBI interviewed Farina but declined prosecution because the locals were handling it.

Farina was booked for carrying a loaded firearm in a public place, a misdemeanor. His bail is set at $25,000. He's still in custody.

31. Without getting too personal, I know much more about this man and this particular instance than any of you. He bought the PROP GUNS yesterday. They look exactly like regular guns, but they have no firing pin - can fire no bullets. He is somewhat of a collector of this type of gun - REPEAT: PROP guns, which may also explain why they are not registered - or because they were purchased this weekend - maybe that's why they were not registered. In the end, I'm sure this is all going to get chalked up to a big "whoops" - both by Dennis (forgetting to put them in his checked luggage), but certainly, I hope, by TMZ and any other website which would post only sparse and misleading information! Better be careful of libel here !!!!! He is as straight and honest as they come!

32. A lapse in memory shouldn't make you a "felon".
Dennis is a harmless elderly actor, not a criminal.
Fortunately, he has the means and money to retain good attorneys.

33. Forgot to add that Harry Connick Jr.was arrested for the exact same thing in '92. The only difference was that Connick's 9mm gun was registered.

37. Tommy - it seems obvious that you never met the man - for the negative comments you made - UNLESS - he busted you when he was a Chicago cop. . . it all makes sense. For how long did he put you away?
He is a classy, kind, and generous man. Anyone who would say otherwise has never met or worked with him.

38. Dennis Farina just made a mistake! He is a great guy. And a great actor too. And he drove in from Arizona, where we all have guns!!!!!

41. Still waiting for that "PROP GUN" story to pan out. Nothing yet! But if his 7th cousin, once removed, by marriage (who saw him from a distance at a reunion) says it's so... I'm gonna believe it!

42.
annie 2 / " do you think all cops abuse authority ?

YES and No, not all;

however, they are the largest " gang " in los angeles.

further, cops are the ultimate player haters out there.

they will pull you over just to punk you WITHOUT probable cause.

short of them planting something, they do interrogate and toss your vehicle at will.

so, not all cops abuse their power, but MOST do " stretch " the long arm of the law beyond reasonable doubt.......

43. Didn't think it was possible, but Dennis Farina is even MORE attractive to me than he already was now that I know he carries a gun! More than a fine actor, this man seems like the real deal - one of the few men (like Tom Selleck, Kelsey Grammer, etc.) who represent (on and off screen) the strong, masculine, politically incorrect, etc. style we rarely see anymore in Hollyweird. He is good in everything he does - I especially loved him on Law & Order and really miss him on that show. I couldn't believe it when I saw on TMZ how he was arrested for what was obviously an innocent mistake - ridiculous! You know, maybe if we were to solve the problem of the REAL criminals who have been allowed to take over this society, decent people like Mr. Farina wouldn't have to carry a gun in the first place.
