Heidi and Spencer: Annoying AND Cheap

A source tells TMZ that Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and two friends ran up a $783 bill at an L.A. restaurant last night -- and when Spency paid the bill, he tipped a whopping 16 bucks!

A camera crew was with the vomit-inducing twosome at the time -- no surprise there -- and our source says that when they stopped filming, the server approached a producer from the show about the measly tip. The producer forked over $60 from his own pocket to cover Spencer's shortcomings.

Included on the bill were 12 shots of platinum Patron at $60 a pop. Drinking and simple arithmetic just don't mix.

63. So, Eoira at number 19 - does that mean that if you order $700 worth of alcohol and no food, you do not have to tip? What kind of a moron are you? The drinks still have to be picked up and brought to the table. You are obviously a very cheap tipper.

68. HE ACTUALLY GAVE A GREAT TIP--you're not supposed to calculate the tip based on the LIQUOR bill, only the FOOD. The tip for the bartender should be SEPARATE. It takes only a few seconds to pour booze--why should that earn a 20% tip??? If the food portion was only $63, then a 20% tip would be $12.60. If Speidi left $16, they OVERTIPPED.

75. TO ALL WHO THINK YOU DON'T TIP ON ALCOHOL!!! CHEAP CHEAP CHEAP!!!!

Restaurants report a percentage (around 12%) of the gross sales for food and beverage to the IRS for their staff. This means that if you have a $200 food bill and $200 wine bill, the restaurant will report 12% of $400 or $48 as income to the server. In other words, the server has to pay tax on it whether you tip it or not. If the restaurants do not report it accurately, the restaurant and the wait staff get audited by the IRS.

Please don't get hung up on the 12%. It is just a reasonable example. I recommend tipping 10-15% on the alcohol and 15-20% on the food. 10% on the wine is perfectly acceptable. Whether to tip 10 or 15 percent would depend in large part on how helpful the server was in choosing the wine and serving it.

And not to mention the server has to tip out at the end of the night to the bus boy, cook etc.... So this server probably had to pay out of her own pocket after that lousy tip!!!
