Heidi and Spencer: Annoying AND Cheap

A source tells TMZ that Heidi Montag, Spencer Pratt and two friends ran up a $783 bill at an L.A. restaurant last night -- and when Spency paid the bill, he tipped a whopping 16 bucks!

A camera crew was with the vomit-inducing twosome at the time -- no surprise there -- and our source says that when they stopped filming, the server approached a producer from the show about the measly tip. The producer forked over $60 from his own pocket to cover Spencer's shortcomings.

Included on the bill were 12 shots of platinum Patron at $60 a pop. Drinking and simple arithmetic just don't mix.

106.
just me, slow down;

firstly, we weren't insinuating that it's appropriate NOT to
tip nor should the servant reserve the ability to complain.

trust they moan and whine to all the other wannabe's
working with them; just not to ownership or management.

but when you take the unwanted profession of someone pursuing the arts,
to take it upon themselves to ACT in retaliation, that's a CRIMINAL act.

so ain't nobody here " acting all high and mighty "
referencing that some actress needs to act like a waiter.

they are professional wait staff getting paid, if they wish to
admit it or not, make their livings SERVING other people.

107. Technically, you are not required to tip on the alcohol purchases at the same rate that you tip on food...granted he's still a cheap skate for tipping SO low, but 12 shots @ $60 a pop...that is pretty much the whole bill right there...should have been more than $16 tip, but certainly not worth getting into a tizzy about anyway.

108. I am fairly certain that it is the same person saying over and over that you don't have to tip on alcohol. That is of course a ludicrous proposition otherwise people wouldn't be bartenders or work as servers in a bar. I am a bar manager and if someone pulled this stunt more than once they would not be welcome back. Period. Say if someone orders a round of shot, lets say a reasonable $7 shot for ten people. It comes to $70. While it might be acceptable to leave 7 (a dollar per drink) most people will still leave me more like 15, especially if they are complicated (layered, rimmed, whatever). So these people can blow all the smoke they want, but living and bartending in the real world shows me that most people are not douches.

109. This couple is like a bad rash that won't go away. For the love of god, stop giving their every posed and contrived moment press!! It's pathetic.

110. Wow really! As much as I dislike them, accusing them of being cheap is a little mislaid.

Let me see if I understand this. They spend $720 on shots and $63 on food and leave a $16 tip. This greedy server had the nerve to badger the producer for more money when all she did was deliver 12 shots and $63 dollars in food? You call THEM out for this?

You should blast the server for the audaciousness of feeling entitled to more money when $720 was in expensive tequila. How absurd!!

15% on $63 is $9.45. If they tipped a dollar a shot that would add $12 extra dollars to the tip in which case the total should have been about $22. Okay, so they should have left an extra $5, but what kind of person chases down the customer (or producer) to demand more money because they feel entitled? $16 dollars is still $16 dollars. You’re a server for Christ’s sake, not a neurosurgeon. Besides, would this have been a big deal if they were doing $6 shots as opposed to $60 shots? Did the serer work harder delivering $60 shots?

TMZ, you blasted the wrong people here. You disappoint me in justifying this server’s action. He/She should be called out and publicly shamed.

111. again i say, the person who is responding to the justification of the $16. tip is spencer.
There is no way that it is OK to leave a $16 tip on a $780 check.
Spencer you are cheap, you do not do anything unless you are paid for it.
To try to justify not paying a server of your drinks is without merit.
You showed your true colors when you showed us your feelings towards you sister.
You a schnoor. I think you know what this means.
Get a life, your 15 minutes are over.

112. A server is a server. With your reasoning servers, should make more then doctors or lawyers. Come on! How difficult is it to serve food? They don’t make it. They don’t create it, they simply say “What can I get you?” and maybe tell what the specials are. If they are really good at their job they make sure to regularly check on the dinners. To think that this “serves” should bring in $100+ an hour is asinine. Who here makes that kind of scratch?

Consider this; If they tipped like some of you say they should have, the tip would have been about $120 or more. 15% of an $800 bill is $120.00. That is for one table. Assuming that they were there for 2 hours (a very long time for the amount they spent on food and the number of shots they ordered) that is $60 an hour for only ONE TABLE WITH FOUR PEOPLE. How many tables do you think a server servers in an hour? How much money should a server make? Should they make enough to buy a beach house in Malibu? Maybe drive an expensive car? I mean come on! How much do you make? Should your server in a nice restaurant clear more a year then you? Do they work harder?

Get a clue people. You are getting ripped off and then making an etiquette argument for the right to get ripped off. You’re all a bunch of sheep!

113.
MOST servers would GLADLY take even a background
role as a sheep getting slaughtered for credit on their reel.

114. if they're so vomit-inducing, why don't you douchebags stop posting their pictures every other day?

115. I guess this story makes me a great person. I ALWAYS tip my server or bartender on drinks and food. I was at a So Cal establishment on Saturday, and had food and drinks amounting to about $70.00 and left a $20.00 tip. That was because the service was great as was the food and clientle. I'm actually wondering what the % of people commenting have ever even worked in F&B (food and beverage)?

Posted at 7:10PM on May 19th 2008 by Just Cruzin Thru

116. That doesn't make you a great person, it makes you a sheep. Do you think your tip is really appreciated? Sure you get thanked, but your generosity is quickly forgotten. Try this. Go back to the same place and don't tip. See what happens. You will see that your roughly 30% tip is no more important or memorable then a 15% tip. So unmemorable that if you didn't tip today you would be chastised for being a cheapskate even though you're not. What's the point of tipping big? Seems to me that a tip is merely a way to ward off being chased by a server and accosted like a criminal who didn't pay their bill. For that I would rather keep the money in my pocket then give it to serve who feels entitled to your hard earned money. So much for appreciation, it's more like expectation.

120. To whateversclever. That the hell are you talking about?

I just read the article about LeBron and it said the same thing: He's cheap. Where do you get that he represents a whole group. I saw your post on the Lebron article saying that KKK members must work at TMZ. What is with you. Do you always go through life trying to pick out racism in everything? You're really stretching here.

You're like an overzealous referee just waiting to blow you whistle and call "racism!".
