Will Smith Backs Scientolo-School?

Will Smith gives money to Scientology school? Will Smith has dropped a bunch of money into opening up a new school in Calabasas, according to a report in the National Enquirer.

But we did a little digging, and the New Village Academy's website indicates that one of their models of learning is something called "Study Technology" -- a method created by none other than L. Ron Hubbard. The school also emphasizes the teaching of ethics and survival -- again, big topics in Scientology.

While Smith is not mentioned per se on the school's site, his reps did not deny his involvement. Instead, they gave TMZ the generic, "no comment", when questioned about his involvement in both the school and the Church.

So is he, or isn't he - a Scientologist, that is. According to Big Willy, he's not.

76. You sound like the same Mike on the anti-Cruise Oprah boards. How are things at OSA?

77. Bipolor:
I respect your rights to see your "DR." for your precieved condition. I also think that many if not all forms of meds are over prescribed. You sight Bi-polor aka manic depression, well Zolof came under fire several years back for teen suicides and it still used WIDELY today.

I also think that labeling Scientology as " a cult" is by unimformed people. One would not tell a Jew to become a Catholic. Or bring back the Salen witch trials for Pagans and Wiccans. People can sight a few incident that they find on the internet about Scientology, but you can find them with any religion. The Catholic church and the child molestion cases, thousands! A couple of rabbi's got caught in the 20/20 child porn sting...etc...

I have done my reasearch on Scientology and I firmly agree that most conditions are psychosomatic.

I have read Dianetics and several other books on the subject and have a great deal of understanding of Scientology. Whenever you interject the word Scientology into any sentence pure hate comes out.

The hate just astounds me.

78. You're wrong:

I have first hand knowledge of zoloft, lexapro, and several other anti-depressants that a step child of mine decided to take because a DR said it was necessary. I didn't disassociate from his care but I knew it was incorrect. It took him a year to see what the truth was......

79. Ok, if Will smith goes the direction of Scientology that will bsolutely be it, I'd lose all respect for him. Honestly I would think he is smart enough and self confident enough not to fall for what they are selling (and at a very high price as well)

To the comments that the cult doesn't matter - try actually looking into it, L Ron Hubbard(interesting quotes by their founder can be found online - frequently about eliminating their enemies) and the multitude of deaths and money schemes surrounding them.

80. How are your stats this week, Kristy? Thursday's coming.

81. Kristy, I never took Zoloft, although my doctor did put me on Wellbutrin for a short while. He took me off as soon as he saw that it had achieved its therapeutic results. It was useful because it made me realize how stupid suicide is and since then when I am depressed and start considering just leaving all my problems behind, I remember that realization and wait for the mood to pass. They started me on lithium which is the standard treatment but it increased my tremor so I was taken off that. Since then I have been on mood stabilizers only (except for that stint on Wellbutrin) and it has served me well. Almost 18 years now of peace and happiness instead of sadness and misery.

I'm sorry that your stepson had a bad experience with anti-depressants. They do not help anyone and it sounds like the doctor may have kept him on them too long. My doctor said that no one should be on Wellbutrin (for depression at least) more than 6 months. As it so happens, the active ingredient in Wellbutrin is the same as that of a popular drug used to help people quit smoking but hopefully they won't need it for more than six months either.

Actually people have told Jews they had to become Catholics. They called it the Inquisition. My problem is not with people who choose to be scientologists although I think them misguided. It is with the methods by which scientology recruits and then brainwashes its members. While Hubbard's belief system may seem to be reasonable on the surface if you consider it rationally, do you really believe that aliens came to Earth millenia ago and still haunt our thoughts? Do you really believe that the communist party and a world-wide coalition of psychiatrists combined to try and stop the spread of dianetics?

Scientology is completely illogical and unprovable. Hubbard claimed it was scientific but he never even approached the level of science in his descriptions and the proof he offered. In fact, the test results he gave to scientists to prove his claims, proved nothing at all. There were no subjective changes in the tests before and after. The test subjects may have believed that they were getting better but belief is not the same as change.

When I was having severe non-migraine headaches which supposedly can be cured by "auditing", my dentist suggested I try a splint because I might be clenching my jaws and grinding my teeth in my sleep. Worked like a charm. I haven't had a headache since. That may not work for everyone but it was a lot cheaper than paying to have my negative thoughts "cleared" and it was even covered by my health insurance. I don't think "auditing" is.
Despite the lack of auditing I have near total recall and a high I.Q. My I.Q. was measured according to standardized tests which don't test all forms of intelligence but they are the ones that Hubbard would have used. I'm not going to claim any psychic abilities because they are unprovable.

In other words, scientology and the dianetics from which it is descended is a mish-mash of outdated, discounted psychological concepts, pseudo-science and pure fantasy (space aliens and an ancient galactic civilization). It doesn't even have internal consistency which it should if it was developed by one man. It is not and never has been a religion. Please do some real research on scientology. It is not the benign helpful belief system you seem to think it is. It is pure, grade A, number 1 hogwash.

82. Welbutrin = Zyban,Yes, I'm a bit familiar with pharmacology. I'm also highly educated, grad of Univ Penn. We can agree to disagree on this subject. Religion is the opiate of the masses.

Posted at 8:35PM on May 20th 2008 by Kristy

83. Kristy, I didn't mean to suggest that you were were ill-educated except perhaps in the realm of scientology. I'd lost the name, Zyban, because I hadn't needed it lately. Even with a very good memory, it can take time to sort through all the memories to find the relevant information. I went to Bryn Mawr so depending on when you graduated we might actually know each other. Amusing thought. I'm not certain what you intend to say with Marx quote. Since we have been discussing whether scientology is a religion are you declaring it a moot point? Or are we agreeing to disagree on the usefulness of drugs in the treatment of properly identified psychological conditions. I make the qualification because we seem to have agreed that all too often the doctors and social workers misdiagnose a psychological condition as in the case of your stepson or identify a condition which never existed like my daughter.
In either case, I believe we have as much common ground as we do differences.

84. Why won't you reciprocate comm, Kristy? Do you have overts?

85. stimpy, you're ignorance astounds me

we hate the cult of scientology because it is a cult, not a religion

it hurts, not helps, in the long run

"show me a MF clear" .... you can't, we have asked, and you can't

and don't even try to lump jews or catholics in with this twisted non-religion

86. Funny Mr. Longcat. I had the same problem. Except I had links to YouTube and my comments happen to be on the first page. Next day they had magically disappeared.

87. Kristy, I hope you are doing some research for the truth

regarding physciatry, meds, etc.

humans either use or abuse, but that doesn't mean what they are using or abusing is bad - it's just what we do with everything good that we are given

contrary to L. Ron's belief that we are all basically good, the Bible says we are all basically flawed with sin and this is proved over and over to be true. We have to be trained when we are children to be nice, fair, not selfish, not hit, etc.

scientology as a religion is FAIL
are you going down with the ship?

88. If it walks like a duck, looks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, it's a duck.

Will, you can come out of the Scientology closet now and say goodbye to your career. And do some reading on Hubbard's speeches on African-Americans - the "Messiah" wasn't too found of them but very found of the "N" word.

89. In all fairness they said the same thing about Oprah. When she built her Academy in South Africa. Connecting it to religious based book club readings and her own personal beliefs toward spiritual growth. I don't see why they had to take something good like that High School and turn it into a "daycare" and/or babysitter for $12,500 a year topping off. I wouldn't be able to eat the food. I think that the second time around investment dollars are down but up from 20k. But he still don't own it! I don't know who is worst him or Oprah. Either way I don't live in California and Africa is out of the question. Small progress big money.

90. I have always subscribed to the belief that there is some good in EVERY religion on the planet. That being said, I want you Haters out there to step back and take a good look at the big business of Christianity. YES, Christianity. I said it. It's nothing but a way to play on people's emotions, a way to target folks when they're down, and to make them think everything will be okay if they worship the invisible dude in the sky (listen to George Carlin's take on that), and give the church money. For every single charletan out there - Christian, Scientologist, or whatever religious name they're hiding behind - there will be full retribution. Everything you send out into the world, WILL come back around. So, do good things -nice truly DOES matter. And screw all organized religions. Use your brain people - and have faith in YOURSELF. No one can intercede and get you closer to God (any God) than you yourself can all by yourself. And personally, I love Will Smith. If he helps others, how can it be wrong? Let he who is without sin - ANY sin - cast the first stone.... Blessed be, ya'll...
