"Idol" Pips Out "Iron Man"

George Michael is performing on tonight's "Idol" finale, but he ain't "the biggest star in the world" that Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe has been touting -- our spies tell us, it's "Iron Man" Robert Downey Jr.

TMZ moles say the finale will include a virtual hologram of Gladys Knight singing "Midnight Train to Georgia" with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Downey Jr. singing backup as the Pips. Holy Nat King Cole! "Idol" did this last season when Celine Dion sang along side a virtual undead Elvis. For the record, Gladys Knight is still alive.

We're told the Jonas Brothers, ZZ Top, Seal, Bryan Adams, One Republic, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood will also perform before David Archuleta (or possibly maybe, but not likely, Cook) is crowned the winner.

18. David Archuleta is way toooo boring. All of his songs sound the same. DAVID COOK should win!

20. So this is the "Big Event" in your lives? zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. I may change the channel to catch the last 5 minutes when they go berserk announcing the winner but neither one looks like a star to me. I bow out after the auditions.

22. This is a music contest so who gives a FLIP about some of the people on tonight's show? George Michaels - gimme a break.

I am boycotting once again because they could have talented ex Idol contestants other than Carrie Underwood appear but they think that would not generate ratings - well, they are WRONG.

27. I LOVE TO COOK!!!!!!!!! Cook all the way! He is by far the more marketable product.......so to speak. Archuleta is the new Brittney or the new Hannah Montana......his career longevity will be short.........as his 12 year old fan base will find someone more exciting (and attractive) by next year.....
