"Idol" Pips Out "Iron Man"

George Michael is performing on tonight's "Idol" finale, but he ain't "the biggest star in the world" that Executive Producer Nigel Lythgoe has been touting -- our spies tell us, it's "Iron Man" Robert Downey Jr.

TMZ moles say the finale will include a virtual hologram of Gladys Knight singing "Midnight Train to Georgia" with Ben Stiller, Jack Black and Downey Jr. singing backup as the Pips. Holy Nat King Cole! "Idol" did this last season when Celine Dion sang along side a virtual undead Elvis. For the record, Gladys Knight is still alive.

We're told the Jonas Brothers, ZZ Top, Seal, Bryan Adams, One Republic, Jordin Sparks and Carrie Underwood will also perform before David Archuleta (or possibly maybe, but not likely, Cook) is crowned the winner.

49. So i visit this site pretty often but I found it silly to see that someone at TMZ thought archie could actually win???? Someone has the wrong people working over there..... I already knew David Cook would win and the first song tonight proved how much archie sucked.... Which brings me to my point that I need a job and would like to replace the the guy/girl who thought archie would win over there??

54. Once again it is proven that talent is not necessary to win at American Idol, just have a lot of fans. David Cook was so outclassed by so many performers (I hate to say this but even Castro) that it is very obvious it is a staged event. It was made very clear weeks ago that it was already set up for David Cook to win. Kristi Cook, Tyesha, Brooke White and yes even Archeletta had tons more talent than Cook. Cook only received sympathy votes from his fans. These are not reality shows people, just staged events, as was proven by Paula's second performance routine a few weeks ago.

58. Shows how much TMZ knows, look who won last night...DAVID COOK! I knew he would win from his first audition, you cant deny an amazing artist when you see and hear one! David A is okay, but boring he should go work for Disney! All of you haters who say DC shouldnt have won obviously dont pay attention to who is the better artist. DA sang better on the finale, but overall DC rocked the house! I am so happy he won and we are from the same state, so that makes it even better!!! ROCK ON!
