Is Tori Baskin' in 31 Flavors of Bacteria?

Why is Baskin-Robbins trotting out Tori Spelling to push its new line of soft-serve ice cream on other pregnant women when soft-serve is a known taboo for preggo women?

Several sources in the know -- including one pregnant OB/GYN -- tell TMZ that there are "definite" health risks associated with soft-serve ice cream for expectant moms because of Listeria bacteria. Softie machines can be studded with bacteria that can cause all kinds of issues for newborns -- in fact, Down Under, it's pretty much forbidden for preggo women.

B-R tells TMZ in a statement, "Our Soft Serve products are continuously monitored by our suppliers, and our pasteurization process is state inspected and certified on a regular basis. The only way Listeria, which has been found in a variety of raw foods, can be found in soft serve would be through improper pasteurization."

31.

your 'SOURCES IN THE KNOW' obviously got their info long before advancements were made in food preparation and regulations governing food- lysteria monocytogenes would not be present in anything anymore, measures have been taken by the goverment to ensure this, however the government does not ensure milk is harm-free.

what preggo women, and everyone else for that matter, should be thinking about, are the toxins and hormones found in dairy products... they cause the breast and prostate cancers we've been seein soooo much of..... think about it- animals are given hormones to grow faster or produce more milk, we eat them and in turn have problems with our hormone centers....hhhmmmm connection??

Organic dairy is safe :) just make sure it's pasturized!

33. Well, don't know about any greater risks for Listeria here, although I would expect any risks from soft serve ice cream might also vary with the climate (explaining the Aussie warnings about it) - even small changes in temperature make a huge difference in reproductive rate of microbuggies. Gets pretty hot Down Under.

But if you're worried about any yuck from cows or chickens that might survive processing, glad to report that there are great nondairy, egg-free ice creams out there! Based on soy usually, although there are some based on rice. If you're blessed with a lot of local choices, enjoy conducting trials. Definitely try anything you see by Turtle Mountain, including their accurately named Purely Decadent line. Tastes as wonderfully junky as the cow's milk version I remember from my careless youth. You can even get really good egg-free mayonnaise now if you're worried about egg contamination.

Also for DIYers - soft serve is much easier to make at home than hard ice cream. Any good blender that can crush ice will do it - just blend ingredients with crushed ice in the proper proportions or for fruit stuff, just use frozen pieces of fruit. The ingredients can also be frozen in ice cube trays and then run through the blender. For a fruity nondairy milk shake, just blending frozen pieces of fruit with some water will give you the right consistency. Make it thicker with less water. No fancy ingredients necessary. You could probably put it in a frosting dispenser (which can be made by rolling up some stiff paper or using a plastic bag with a hole made in it) if you must have that swirly effect in a cone. Or put it in popsicle forms if you prefer not so soft.

35. OMG! This is a load of crap! I ate soft serve throughout my pregnancy and my son was born perfectly healthy. He is now ten years old and is in the Young Scholars class at school. If we would stop scaring people to death with what they should and should not eat/drink then, oh wait, the newscasters would be out of a job.

36. Doctors would rather lock pregnant women in cages and feed them gerbil food pellets than let them live normally during their pregnancy. You can get lysteria from a tomato out of your garden.

40. I really liked Tori's book, she is very honest.

Her parents raised her Bev Hills style and then made no provisions for her to enable hr to live in the real world.

Tori is not lazy, she has always worked in the industry.
But I can see where it would be a real handicap to be raised Aaron Spelling's daughter without an inheritance to fall back on.

I could understand it if her mother was financially incapable of helping Tori. But what Candi Spelling is doing is hogging all the money for herself. Few mothers would be that mean.

41. At least Tori is lawfully married and working, instead of skanking around and stealing mink coats.

Why isn't Lohan in jail?

You are showing favoritism toward that no-goodnik whore LL.

42. "Baby Bump" is the most vulgar, tasteless term to decribe a prenant woman that I have ever heard. It is gross. Who coined that? Why can't people just say expecting or with child, or even showing. Gross.

43. And we care about has-been Tori Spelling who pinps her life story and pregnancy for cash - why?

She is trying hard to ride her daddy's coat tails .. and failing. I would rather you post fuzzy photos of the moon and say you think you actually captured proof of the Man on the Moon.

44. Sorry honey, but MOST women these days have to hold down a job while they're pregnant. I worked up until three days before I gave birth. And I actually WORKED. I didn't goof around passing out ice cream all day. What she is doing is hardly work.

Posted at 5:51PM on May 21st 2008 by Whatever

No, check you stats. Many women (not you, obviously) PLAN their pregnancies and, with their husbands, work hard in advance so that they can take time off while pregnant and for years afterwards. Just because you "Whatever" were digging ditches at 9 months does not mean those of us who planned ahead did likewise.
