Is Tori Baskin' in 31 Flavors of Bacteria?

Why is Baskin-Robbins trotting out Tori Spelling to push its new line of soft-serve ice cream on other pregnant women when soft-serve is a known taboo for preggo women?

Several sources in the know -- including one pregnant OB/GYN -- tell TMZ that there are "definite" health risks associated with soft-serve ice cream for expectant moms because of Listeria bacteria. Softie machines can be studded with bacteria that can cause all kinds of issues for newborns -- in fact, Down Under, it's pretty much forbidden for preggo women.

B-R tells TMZ in a statement, "Our Soft Serve products are continuously monitored by our suppliers, and our pasteurization process is state inspected and certified on a regular basis. The only way Listeria, which has been found in a variety of raw foods, can be found in soft serve would be through improper pasteurization."

46. Ummm...I've been pregnant & never heard this. Known lots of pregnant women, they've never heard of this. We all ate soft serve. Worked at a OB/GYN's office for years & we never told people not to eat soft serve.

47. If there is the smallest risk, why why why why why would you take the chance!

48. 34. OMG! This is a load of crap! I ate soft serve throughout my pregnancy and my son was born perfectly healthy. He is now ten years old and is in the Young Scholars class at school. If we would stop scaring people to death with what they should and should not eat/drink then, oh wait, the newscasters would be out of a job.

Cathy, by that faulty logic we should all smoke crack while pregnant because 1 person did it and their kid is fine. Perhaps your Young Scholar can teach you to reason beyond the 2nd grade level.

53. 15: WTF are you even talking about? Many people work up until they give birth. I worked up until the day I went to the hospital. Unless you're a high risk, there is no reason for you NOT to work, as long as you aren't doing anything strenuous. I wouldn't consider pulling a lever and holding a cone to be 'heavy work'.

54. 46: Exactly. Her logic is amazingly flawed. Apparently these warnings came from SOMETHING. Someone somewhere ate something contaminated and their unborn child died because of it. Maybe the chances aren't high, but the chance IS there. So why tempt it? Is soft serve ice cream more important than the well being of your child? To some people, probably. Hahaha.

Why not go eat a raw steak then? Or some of the many other things your OBGYN recommends that you not eat? I'm sure SOMEONE out there ate a rare piece of meat and their child was fine. And i'm sure that someone out there ate it as well and caused harm to their child. :P

55. What? I used to work for an OB/GYN - AND I've been pregnant - and I have never heard that soft-serve ice cream was on the list of no-no's during pregnancy. Sushi - yes. Raw oysters - yes. But ice cream? Give me a break! What about the old cliche' about ice cream and pickles! It was never followed by a disclaimer - "as long as it's not soft-serve". Please...

56. Damn it - why didn't I read this story yesterday so I could have taken my baby bump down to Baskin Robbins and gotten some free ice cream??!! I miss out on everything! Also, thinking about the logistics of this promotion - how do they prove you are or aren't preggers anyway? Just curious.

57. WHy are some people calling Tori desperate if she needs money and HAS to work.
That's how it goes for most Americans.

It's a shame that Tori has such a selfish mother who sits on a pile of millions while her daughter has to work.

Candie Spelling only has two kids, so why doesn't she set them up financially.
Good parents help their kids whenever they can.
