Daughter of Christian Singer Chapman Killed

The five-year-old daughter of Christian singer Steven Curtis Chapman was killed last night when a car apparently driven by one of her older brothers hit her in the Chapman family's driveway.

In what local police are calling a "terrible accident," Maria Chapman was playing in the driveway when she was struck by a Toyota Land Cruiser driven by one of Chapman's teenage sons. The police did not identify the driver, according to The Tennessean.

A statement on Chapman's website says, "Maria was rushed to Vanderbilt Children's Hospital in Nashville, transported by LifeFlight, but died of her injuries there." Maria was the youngest of the Chapman's six children.

256. 173. I don't understand this, did the Prince of Peace just not like his songs?

understand that there is nothing in this world that can make one person gain more favor in God's eyes than another. pain is a part of life and so is death. all things work for a divine plan that none of us will understand. it takes just as much faith to be an atheist as it does to believe in a divine power. and more and more scientists are leaning towards the theory of creationism. if you actually READ anything besides TMZ posts (i suggest discovery mags "top 75 scientific discoveries of the year") then you would know that there must be a divine plan in this existence. look up the law of irreducable complexity and you may just surprise yourself.

sometimes you have to see it to believe it, but others you have to believe it to see it. don't sell yourself short in the name of cynicism. although, i do respect whatever it is you believe. unfortunately, taking your comments into consideration, i cannot say that you respect other's beliefs. it is ok to question people... it is completely different to judge them.

257. No where in the Bible does it speak of not adopting outside of your race. If it's there, please point it out to me. The Bible speaks about how we are adopted into the family of God, by the shed blood of Jesus Christ. I agree with the previous poster, we are all of the same race - the HUMAN RACE. I can't believe that there are people posting comments here that are so incredibly cruel. What has this family done to deserve your hatred? Would you react the same way if this happened to a family in your community? Would you think that the parents ticked God off or that he could "write a song and make tons of money"? Do you know how ridiculous your comments sound?

This is a tragedy and was an ACCIDENT. This young brother will live with this for the rest of his life. He will never get over this, although with God's help, the horrible grief he is feeling now will fade. I pray that God keeps this family strong during this time of deep mourning. No parent should ever have to bury a child, no matter how old that child is. I saw personally the deep grief my grandparents went through when my mom died at 46. Instead of condemning these parents and their son, lift them up to our Father in heaven. Support them with your prayers in this time of pain. God forbid this ever happen to one of your family members.

258. Jimmy Phillips Says:
23 May 2008 at 9:57 am
This has weighed heavy on my heart as it always does when a child’s life is taken from us, but this one hit a little closer to home. We worked together as teenagers at a grocery in Lone Oak, Ky. Back then we never knew that Steve was destined for stardom, but he and his brother Herbie were always strumming a guitar. So to me they are special because of our childhood friendship, and I am still crying not only with tears but deep inside my heart.

So, in my heart I have to believe that our Heavenly Father simply needed another “Little Angel,” and out of the 6.7 billion people in the world, she was the best qualified for the job! (Steve, I wrote this poem below for you my friend in honor of your daughter, I hope you don’t mind) jimmyvintage@mindspring.com

“In My Heart”

by Jimmy Phillips

A little girl lives here, she has the sweetest smile,

the twinkle in her eyes will stay with you for awhile.

She is always happy and loved, you can see it in her eyes,

her smile comes from her heart, her eyes twinkle like fireflies.

She so loves her family as everyone else does as well,

she is as sweet as she can be, that little Southern Belle.

Her happiness was contagious, no matter how you felt,

if you met her you would smile too, in spite of yourself.

Maria Sue loved to sing with her daddy as he strummed out a tune,

you could see from his twinkling eyes, he thought she hung the moon.

Yes, she was loved by so many during her short time earth,

she made quite a special impact since the time of her birth.

She will be missed by many, she will never be forgotten,

for now this Angel lives with God, and his only begotten.

In my heart I know this and in my heart I smile,

for a Little Angel lives there, and she has the sweetest smile!

God Bless You my friend!!!! Jimmy

259. Are you serious,Mark? Adopting outside your own RACE? Cattle? What? Race and SPECIES are 2 different things. Ugh. I have an adopted child who is a different racial makeup than I am. But shes still part of the human race.

Oh and before you go off trying to say God frowns on adoption, wasn't Jesus adopted?

260. Being a genealogist for over thirty years has enlightened me to a lot of things about race, but mainly that there is just one, "human!" Our ancestry is just one huge melting pot. Our DNA is all different and the more genetic markers that are tested the tighter the accuracy becomes. And the further that you go back the more common they become, genealogically speaking.

Scientists, as well as geneticist will tell you that if we go back far enough(Adam & Eve) we are all related. And of course Christians should already know this from studying the book of Genesis in the Bible.

I know one man who has traced his ancestry all the way back to the tie in with Abraham in the Bible. Long story short, we are all cousins of some sort.

Sometimes I think Samuel Langhorne Clemens had a point about racism, well, at least he had a sense humor about it:

"Such is the human race, often it seems a pity that Noah... didn't miss the boat."

I hope this will help put this disgraceful race and adoption argument to bed, at least on this forum. This comment section is not the place for a debate.

263. A few people have brought up the parents. As a parent I know that the little ones can get out of sight in the blink of an eye and all it takes is the blink of an eye. There was a lot going on, they had just had an engagement party for their oldest daughter and were about to have a graduation party for their son who just graduated high school (the one driving). Supposedly "many family members witnessed the accident" so I doubt that they were just letting the kids run around with no supervision. It only takes a second, folks. Accidents can happen before you have time to react. There was just a lot going on, and the girl just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. It's nobody's fault. I'm praying for the Chapman family and anyone else who has ever lost a child.

269.

Someone needs to be charged with child neglect and abuse.

Where was this good Christian family, when this child was playing outside alone?

No excuses!

270. Why are there people that have to place blame on someone for anything that happens??? There are such things as accidents. I might not listen to his music or share his beliefs, but that does not mean that I cannot feel sorrow for someone who is going through the trials of such a horrible accident. Its called being respectful of others, and that has nothing to do with religion or faith or if you believe in a god or not. This is a terrible tragedy and everyone who is judging this family or questioning their beliefs at this time should be ashamed of themselves. Just because you do not share this mans beliefs is not an excuse to bash him or his family for theirs. I hope they find comfort in each other and that the brother will realize that it was an accident and the people around him will practice forgiveness and compassion instead of blame and such. No one deserves to go through such a tragedy. I hope all of you who have made this a forum of bashing and blaming are hanging their head in shame right now.
