"Family Circus" Mommy Dies at 82

Family CircusThe Mommy of "Family Circus" -- the kindly woman who was the mother of four rambunctious rugrats in every paper across the country -- and for millions of other kids all over the country, has passed away.

Thelma Keane, the inspiration for Mommy and the wife of the comic strip's creator, Bil Keane, died of Alzheimer's disease on Friday. Her husband's strip appears in 1,500 newspapers across the country.

"When the cartoon first appeared," said her husband, "she looked so much like Mommy that if she was in the supermarket pushing her cart around, people would come up to her and say, 'Aren't you the Mommy in 'Family Circus'?"

17. I loved that cartoon strip but TMZ...check your facts...people don't DIE of Alzheimer's. You can have Alzheimer's but it does not cause a person's death.

18. Too bad Roger C. wasn't raised by a family as nice as the Keanes. Perhaps then he would have known better than to make such a crude remark about someone's passing. Jerks like him have no life, so they post such nonsense to get a rise out of people. Love the comic strip, may God bless!

19. Do not tell George Clooney who mocked Charlton Heston's Alzheimer disease for political gain for he may poke fun of the family Circus mom's Alzheimer's too. Fact one does not die from Alzheimer's an incurable disease just like one does not die from AIDS an incurable disease. No one likes any one who pokes fun at handicapps or disease.

22. This is a cartoon that finely portrayed America
from a very unique viewpoint. Words were seldom
spoken for it was all told in by the pen and what '
was in Bill Keanes heart and memories and for
that I'll always feel blessed to have been just one
of their readers who always enjoyed his fine comic.
May the lord be with him and her o this sad day.
We all love you. You're one of a kind Mr. Keane!
