Train Wrecks
China Shows Sharon What Karma Really Is

Looks like the Chinese will have to live without Sharon Stone's "Sliver" for a while: The biggest movie chain in China says it's banning her flicks from its screens after she called the horrific earthquakes there "karma" for past abuses.

Ng See-Yuen, head of the UME Cineplex chain, tells the Hollywood Reporter that Stone's ridiculous remarks were "inappropriate" and that actors should not bring personal politics to such a disaster that's killed tens of thousands and left 5 million homeless.

No word on whether the absence of "Last Action Hero" will cause widespread rioting in the streets of Beijing.

46. Good for China! We are sick and tired of Hollywood dictating to us how we should feel or think too.

47. So if what China got was the result of karma, then that must be why the U.S. got Hurricane Katrina? Idiots. Where was Sharon Stone when that hit?

A tragedy is a tragedy when thousands of innocent lives are lost and even more left homeless, whether they're Chinese or American. Leave your political views out of this. Regardless of what the Chinese government does, innocent citizens do not deserve to die.

49. To Sharon Stone:

You are a moron..to the nth degree. I will never know why people assume that just because someone is on television or the movies, they have an opinion anyone else might fight interesting. Anyway, Sharon, yours was certainly deep. So because of the abuses of a govt., ordinary individuals deserved to die. What do you read? The Susan Sarandon/Tim Robbins textbook on how to be politically outspoken while having the knowledge of a doorknob? So my suggestion to you, dumbass, is to go to a libarary and learn about earthquakes.

On the positive side of things, you can take comfort in the fact that you are no dumber than Sean Penn, who has made a second career of making factually incorrect statements (often bordering on the absurd), while running around the world supporting some of the most oppresive, anti-human rights leaders in the world (Hussein, Chavez).

Do the world a favor, Sharon. Go away.

50. I should also mention that when people from other countries said the U.S. "deserved" Hurricane Katrina, we immediately branded them as terrorists and sympathizers.

51. China has gotten what it deserves...they are horrible disgusting people and why should the US care about them...if we had devastation here which we have had in the past they have never helped us.

52. UUHHHmmm, I'm agreeing with Sharon on this one. What goes around comes around!!!!

53. Go ahead China, ban Sharon Stone movies. No one cares. Personally, I believe Americans should stop buying anything that says "Made in China." Not only are human rights violated in China, but via the Chinese dog and cat fur trade, millions of companion animals are slaughtered in unbelievably terrible ways every single day, just to sell their fur on clothing and trinkets. HALF of China's revenue in the dog/cat fur trade comes from American consumers buying fur...in many cases unknowingly because the labeling incorrectly states the fur is faux! If Americans STOP buying ANY fur, whether real or fake, we CAN put a stop to the Chinese dog/cat fur trade! Loss of $$ is a big motivator. Further, if people everywhere will ban "Made in China", the loss of revenue will show China that the entire world will no longer put up with their abuses towards both humans and animals.

54. This stupid woman has used up her 15 minutes of fame. She's just deporable and should be ignored by paparazzi and everyone. She had 2 good movies years ago: Basic Instinct and Casino. CAREER OVER!
Quit giving her press where she can make her stupid comments. No one wants to hear from her.

55. Sharon Stone is done. Oh, that's right, she's been done for anything meanful. Now watch her hit the AIDS campaign real hard so we can forget about her damning statement. God will decide thosse things, not Sharon. What is her Karma now for judging least she be judged.

56. I HAVE TO AGREE WITH SHARON, IT IS KARMA, ITS SAD BUT TRUE. CHINA HAS ALLOWED THEIR GOVERNMENT TO SUPPRESS AND ABUSE FOR CENTURIES. NO HUMAN RIGHTS, NO ANIMAL RIGHTS, NO LABOR LAWS, THEY DON'T GIVE A CRAP ABOUT ANYTHING EXCEPT THEIR OWN PERSONAL GAIN. ITS SAD, VERY SAD, BUT I CAN'T SAY ITS NOT WHAT THEY HAD COMING TO THEM.

57. Free Speech. Anyone can utter any opinion they want (like this one), and entertainers can get the biggest audience because of their celebrity. However, as this story and the diminished audiences for Oprah and the Dixie Chicks show, they had better not care about money because audiences can stay away in droves. Or governments can decide that your free mouth belongs in the land of free speech -- and not on their shores.

Hey, celebs, support a political party or cause -- but be prepared to pay for it. Free speech ain't free.

58. Bonae -- while I too am a stickler for grammar and spelling in journalism, I must point out that the use of "there" is in fact correct here. It's more a case of bad style because it can be misconstrued, but parse the phrase carefully:

>>> after she called the horrific earthquakes there "karma"

59. How many kids in the U.S. died or were seriously injured by lead poisoned stuff sent here by China? Maybe it is karma.

60. Ok CT #6, I think you just opened a big ole can of karma on yourselves. Did anyone listen to the woman? She said that she had made a mistake by THINKING not even saying it was karma THINKING to herself! SHE DOESN'T believe it's karma. Listen people.
Besides CT, more americans are boycotting chinese products because they can kill our kids, earthquake or no earthquake that's irresponsible.
