Karma Bites Lil' Wayne in the Butt

A lot of times, when the lil' guy -- in this case, a singer named Karma -- says someone -- Lil' Wayne -- jacked his or her song as a sample and wants to get paid, it's a bogus ploy to score some coin. This is not one of those times.

Karma Ann Swanepoel sings a folky-guitary song called "Once" which is -- let's just say -- very prominently featured in his hit song "I Feel Like Dying." In a lawsuit filed in Louisiana, Karma says that Wayne's label has actually been trying to make a deal to use her song, but they haven't agreed. But Lil' W has been pimping out his song everywhere -- MySpace, YouTube, and live on his tour. And now Karma wants relief -- in the form of cold, hard cash.

Lil' Wayne's manager didn't return a call for comment.

16. LOOOK to all you people out there, Lil wayne is one of the greatest rappers still in the game (except Jay-Z), hes got made skills, if your making a mixtape or remix's to a song thats isnt yours den yes he needs to give credit and fork over dat cake. BUT TMZ did them a unjustice because they ddint let you hear both songs the whole verison. Little wayne might have copied her hook an switched it up a little bit but thats he the rest is His own verues and lyrics but it still isnt fair to karam but u gotta agree with what they said atleast it will get palying time expecially after all this bull$hit controversy about it, Also it is also unfair that the songed leaked before their deal could be finalized but dats da music game an 1 last thing when u make enough money like lil wayne birdman an the whole cash money label 20 million like pocket change

17. Karma should be flattered that one of Wayne's producers wanted to use a vocal sample of her. She could have been the next Dido.

20. She cannot sue because this song was on one of Lil Waynes FREE MIX TAPES. You simply download them. Wayne tells you himself that this is a mixtape and you're stupid if you bought it. Conclusively, the song was never for sale because it wasnt on an album that was for public purchase. He didn't get any money off of that song and neither should she.

As far as concert performances, should other singers give royalties when they perform a classic song of another artist? What about when rappers do freestyles over someone's beat? This is going too far. She's just mad b/c she never made it big and wants money now.

if you were at work and created a business plan and then closed the deal but some other @sshole got credit for it, you would be pissed. if you are in school writing a report and even take merely one sentence from a source but don't credit the source, you are considered to have plagiarized and face expulsion. If her work is copywritten to any degree, any duplication (whether it profits or is free) is illegal. copywrites... this is why we have them. there must be SOME sort of case she has here.

im tired of rappers getting away with blatant forgery. and she is getting good promotion out of this, but is it the kind of promotion she wants? it's called ripping off a copywritten work and Lil wayne should be sued because he is a talentless sell out and a greedy crook.

23.
Karma definately has a solid case. in the music world it is all about the money, and if Wayne didn't get permission to use those lyrics, then he is screwed. I love Lil Wayne but he messed up big time!

24. Little Wayne has no talent. He can't rap or sing and all of his songs suck. I'm not surprised at all that he ripped off someone else's talent!!!!

If someone stole your business plan and implemented that plan, they would OBVIOUSLY make money from that venture. Lil Wayne's free mixtapes are not for sale therefore he makes NO MONEY on that song.

I've listened to that song and I've ALWAYS KNOWN that she made the hook. So how is Lil Wayne guilty of not giving her credit? You guys FAILED TO NOTICE THAT LIL WAYNE HAS BEEN TRYING TO MAKE A DEAL TO USE HER SONG!!! She refused and thats why he put it on a FREE MIX TAPE so NO ONE IS GETTING MONEY NOW!

She's just being greedy. HOW CAN SHE ASK FOR ROYALTY PAYMENTS FROM A SONG THAT WAS NEVER PURCHASED??? Myspace is free, youtube is free, and THE DAMN CD WITH THAT SONG ON IT WAS FREE!!! Lets see, what is 20% of $0.00 made...UGH $0.00
