Hogans Got Hang Ups on Phone Calls

TMZ has learned that lawyers for Nick Hogan, aka Nick Bollea, have asked a judge to stop Pinellas County, Fla. Sheriff Jim Coats from releasing any more recorded jail phone calls. Hung up on you!

Tapes of Hogan, currently serving time for a horrific car accident that gravely injured his friend, were released to the media by the Sheriff. Hogan and his family claim the release of these conversations violate their privacy -- even though you can hear a recorded voice on the tapes telling you, what else, that the call is being recorded.

A Sheriff's Department spokesperson tells us they won't hand out any more tapes until a judge makes a final ruling.

91. The Sheriff's office didn't release the tapes to the highest bidder. A request was made and someone paid the standard costs.

Florida has released jail tapes before. Conversations between inmates and former spouses, parents and other family members have all been made public. The lawyers tried to fight it as being a violation of the right to privacy and on constitutional grounds without success.

So it's a long shot that Nick will be able to win on this one but it does delay the release of the next batch of tapes.

Could this be the start of “Nick Knows Solitary” now that the Hogan’s know free air time courtesy of the Sheriff’s Department comes with the package?

92. Those tapes are public information. The jail can't sell something that's free. If they did, then the media that bought them are dumb. The public has general access to those tapes through Pinellas County Jail. To those that say "are tapes being released of other inmates?" No, because the public doesn't care about any of the other people in that jail. I think the way it happens is that the paparazzi try to get any information they can on Nick's stay in jail, they find phone calls are free game and subject to recording, they grab them. It's the same thing that happens with court testimonies like Denise Richards. That becomes public information after the trial, the media can grab it and then use it in an article and even use quotes as if they had talked to her because it is something that she actually said. It's up to the judge to decide if public information can be closed to the public (usually if children are involved....which makes Nick's case a little more difficult because he is a minor tried as an adult).
