I agree agree with most of what you've written here. And I wholeheartedly agree that the parents are to blame more than anyone.

I am disturbed by the level of hatred in a lot of the comments here too, specifically the rape fantasies. Anyone who wishes rape on another human being, especially a kid, is sick. That said, I am still outraged by the Bollea's conduct since. But in regards to sentencing I agree with you, personality should not be a factor. I also believe that Graziano was egging him on, but I also feel that should have no bearing on Nick's sentence because Nick alone had control of the vehicle. Like I said before, it wouldn't matter if the passenger was Satan himself, the responsibility falls on whoever the driver happens to be, irregardless of the sins of the passenger. John is already paying the ultimate price for his "sins" anyway.

This is ironic, but have not seen it mentioned anywhere, there was a Hogan knows best episode from a couple of years back where Nick took one of the cars for a ride when his parents were not home, or snuck it out, then the cops came by the house. Anyways the story went as Hogan told him no license when he turned 16 since he is not responsible enough, and told him " I could lose everything if you got into an accident". Later in the story, Hogan takes Nick to the police department and they show him the dangers of speeding, etc. Nick then says he learned a valuable lesson, not to speed.

Scripted or not scripted, guess he did not learn the lesson.......

neither nick or graziano as a willing passenger in a race took the safety of other drivers on the road into account when they went joy riding that day. nick could have easily killed a mother driving her kids in a minivan that day while he and john walked out without a scratch. and then in that case, we would hold john responsible for being a passenger during a race that killed unwilling bystanders.

278. Nick's parents should be taking most of the blame. It is their responsibility to teach him right from wrong! The first time he got a speeding ticket he should have been grounded from driving!

They are immature and it reflects in Nick's behavior.

What makes people mad is that they haven't changed their behavior. They are STILL blaming other people and behaving with poor character. They keep the spotlight on the situation by their as*ine comments and "dating" kids the same age as their own children.

Behave and LOOK (not like a biker dude or hooker) like mature adults and most of the publicity would move on to someone else.

Maybe a hit in the wallet will make them wake up. John will need VERY expensive care the rest of his life and THEY should foot the bill because even if John used poor judgement getting in the car, IT WAS THEIR CAR & THEIR SON. Let THEM pay for the care rather than the taxpayers.

I think most people agree John put himself in that situation but Nick shouldn't have been racing OR drinking. HE was the driver. If the situation was reversed the DRIVER would still be to blame. it is NOT equally both people's fault. The DRIVER makes the ultimate decision to get behind the wheel that's why we have LIABILITY insurance on our cars. When we drive we are financially liable for our decisions behind the wheel.

If your friend got in an accident and you were in the car and broke both your legs I guess you would help he/she pay for the damages, right? You are so kind! GEE who's the retard Brooke?

BUT again the major beef is their ATTITUDES and self centeredness.

I have known of a couple kids in similar situations and they and their parents took RESPONSIBILITY and didn't act like spoiled brats that THEIR lives were messed up.
