Richard Simmons: Sweatin' on a Lawsuit

A couple is suing fitness freak Richard Simmons -- and it's not because he wears those terrible shorty shorts.

Susan and Daniel Dunlap are suing Fisher Price, Mattel, and the Bedazzled One for stealing an idea they claim they had to combine interactive media and treadmills -- which was pretty much a fancy way to distract people from how much exercising sucks. Kinda like the shorty shorts.

The Dunlaps allege they exchanged emails with Simmons and his manager about their idea called "S & D Treadmill Travels" in 2006 -- but eventually stopped hearing back.

That is, until 2007, when the Dunlaps saw an advertisement for the "Smart Cycle" -- a product which showed a kid exercising on stationary bike connected to a television. The Dunlaps alledge the product was endorsed by one Richard Simmons.

The Dunlaps are suing for damages in excess of $75,000. A call to Simmons' manager -- and Mattel -- was not immediately returned.

19. Their lawyer should have saved them the cost of lawyers and court fees and told them this lawsuit has no merit. The fact they are suing for $75,000, no patent, prior art shows they have no real damages

20. The gym I go to had a exercise bike with a video monitor attached to it back in 2001, what these people "invented" is certainly nothing new. Sheesh!!! People will sue for anything.

21. Richard is one of the nicest and most loving people I know. He's helped so many, and each person he talks to, he tries to make them feel special. It grieves me to see this kind of crap being written about him. Do people have nothing better to do with their lives??!! IF this "lawsuit" is true, then these people are wasting their time, as it's not a new idea in any stretch of the imagination. And TMZ..... I thought you were okay, but now I see that you have no respect or regard for people either. I saw the live feed you did recently...... Richard was nothing but kind to you. And yet here you are bashing him.
How do you sleep at night? Any of you. SHAME on you.

22. Richard Simmons seems like a nice guy. But so is this couple. Don't judge them - if you don't know them. They are very loving and caring people who have hleped friends and neighbors in hard times also. There are two sides to every story!
