Hollywood Cheapskates and Tightwads

So our spies at a few Hollywood restaurants have weighed in on celeb tippers and gyppers. And the verdict is in.

We're told the worst celeb tippers at STK are two of the richest folk in town -- the Beckhams. We're told a restaurant once comped David and Victoria, and guess how much they left by way of tip? Nada.

On the other end of the spectrum, Ryan Seacrest is off the charts, once leaving five hundred dollars on a one hundred dollar tab. He's either a really nice guy or he just sucks at math.

UPDATE: The owner of STK tells us that our spy is wrong, the Beckhams are "great customers and excellent tippers."

Michael.....you should stick to the dollar menu at Mickey D's!

17. Maybe the Beckhams thought the restaurant owner was going to provide the tip too, after all comping is comping.
So why doesn't the owner suck it up and give the staff the tip?

18. Hmmmm. seems to me that tipping is a crock!! If you went to college and had a real job, you wouldn't have to worry about, "...penny-pinchers and cheapskates..." I work hard for my money, so why should I fork it over to someone who has no real skills other than bringing one's entree to the table.

Let them get a college education if they want decent pay!

20. Entitlement entitlement entitltment. That's what I am reading here. It is YOUR responsibility as the customer to make sure your waiter can pay his rent or drive a luxury car. Piss off! Get a higher paying job if you can’t accept that a tip is a curtsey, not an obligation. You want a higher tip, do a better job. If you don’t want to, get into another field. There is no shortage of people capable of doing what you do and I’m sure filling your position would be no problem. Quite whining about what you DIDN’T get and appreciate what you did.

The argument that I shouldn’t eat out if I can't afford the tip is ridiculous! It’s not a question of not being able to afford it, it’s a matter of not wanting to waste money on a person who doesn’t appreciate it. Your argument is like saying “if you can’t afford to give money to bums on the street you shouldn’t walk down the street”.

21. Keep giving to the super rich, they are used to it, they expect it, they couldn't care less about those beneath them.
I do give them 1% benefit of the doubt after hearing Russell Brand's take on tipping - they aren't used to the US custom but how long have they been here by now????? How many times have the Becks gone out todinner with American celebrities and seen the ropes????

22. Another " celeb ' couple I dont understand why all the fuss about. She looks like she always has a broomstick up
her butt and There's really nothing special about him. Big deal he can kick a soccer ball. We as people need
to stop all this glorification, just because people make movies or play sports for a living. Enough already. They
are people. Its really silly how people act like they are something special and ordinary people are not.

23. Ok, I am a waiter. I went to college, and got a degree, and this is what I have chosen to do. I work in a Gourmet Restaurant and The Internal Revenue Service charges me a dollar amount per hour worked because of what they think the customer will tip me. That means if I dont get tipped, I actually LOSE money. I never, ever assume that a guest will tip, no matter what kind of service I provide, but, I do provide excellent, knowledgable, and prompt service. All the while entertaining the guests when possible. When a bill is comped, Those sales are charged against the waiter, so actually a larger than normal tip should be given. Not to mention if you are a multi-multi-millionaire. I know that other customs are different, but I bet that the Beckhams drive of the correct side of the road here, so, they should have learned the tipping custom by now. As for Ryan Seacrest, I just got a whole new impression of you. Good looking out for the Service Industry!!

24. Michael obviously knows nothing of economics.
People pay other poeple for services rendered. In turn those paid people buy goods and services from others. It's what keeps our economy going. Otherwise, you may as well hunt your food, cook it , clean up after it... yourself.
There's a bigger picture here Michael, it's not just about you.
We're not hunter/gatherers any longer....we all need to contribute.

25. What do you want to bet that Micheal doesn't get many second dinner dates with his attitude? Cheap bastard. It's isn't entitlement, it's freakin etiquette.

27. As for not tipping on a meal that was comped, waitstaff have to tip out the bar, busboy, expo, and somtimes others. This is usually between 4-7% of your sales. This means that when you stiff someone they are actually PAYING TO HELP YOU. This is how one gets spit in there food.

Those years of education didn't teach you anything about ignorance though did it? Responding to your every beck and call and hightailing it everywhere they go to make your night enjoyable is also considered hard work their Mr, Phd.

But you keep acting like your better than everyone and if your food tastes a little "off", its ok, your ignorant.

30. In some places in Canada the tip is included in the bill. Whatever the patron leaves after that is just gravey for them. We always tip. Servers work their butts off most of the servers are working their way through school or single moms or this is a 2nd or 3rd job so that they can pay the rent and not depend on social assistance. Tips are like perks from work which most of us get in some ways. I know it is not mandatory but it makes us feel good.
