NBC News Delayed Russert Announcement

NBC News waited almost 15 minutes to report the death of its colleague Tim Russert, mostly because his wife and son are on vacation in Italy.

The NY Times reported the story on their website at 3:23 PM ET. NBC didn't break in to make the announcement until 3:39 PM.

NBC sources tell us they delayed because they could not reach his family overseas. They were on the trip to celebrate his son Luke's graduation.

NBC tapped veteran anchor Tom Brokaw -- a close friend of Russert's -- to make the announcement.

49. Tim Russert was a legend of his time, I enjoyed watching his news reporting and his
political analysis, in Meet the Press he was a strong and fair interviewer. He leaves
the world a better place and we are better off for knowing him. I send my prayers, thoughts and condolences to his family, all those who know him, and to his colleagues at NBC, and MSNBC. Godspeed Tim Russert, I will miss you.

55. Have some respect for Tim's family & colleagues. Story posted 15 minutes late? What is the deal with media??? A wonderful gentleman passes away and TMZ's concerned that the NY Times got the story before NBC made annoucement...stop your ridiculous measuring and spend at least 15 minutes in silence honoring a TRUE honest journalist--TIm Russert.

59. We are greatly saddened to hear of Mr. Russert's death. Though we only knew him via TV broadcasts we believed him to be an honorable, dedicated businessman and a loving member of his family. We will greatly miss his broadcasts, remember his 'Florida, Florida, Florida', and the fact his humility and sense of humor always came through.
To his family - private and professional - we extend our deepest sympathies. We will never forget Tim Russert.

60. What and absolutely tasteless headline--a blatant attempt to create some sort sensationalised BS over NBC's doing what any decent human would do and notify Tim's family first.

Maybe that's the headline, "NBC News Behaves Responsibly"...

You should be ashamed of yourselves!!!
