Tim Russert Dies of a Heart Attack

NBC News' Tim Russert has died of a heart attack. He was 58.

He was working in NBC's Washington bureau today when he collapsed while recording voice overs.

DC Fire tells us the call came in at 1:41 PM ET. We're told they transported one adult male patient in cardiac arrest to Sibley Hospital where he died.

The "Meet the Press" host and author is survived by his wife, Maureen Orth -- a special correspondent for Vanity Fair -- and their adult son, Luke.

166. One more thing...to the person who said Tim wasn't as hard hitting as Billo all I will say is that Tim never cut off any guest's microphone just so he wouldn't lose an argument.

167. He was well loved by all. The election coverage will not be the same this year without him. I was a weekly fan of Meet the Press.

168. This is a loss to the world of politics and journalists. Tim set he high standards and was always about getting the story right. I feel for his family, such a horrible thing to happen just as his son was embarking on the next phase of his life.

169. This is so sad--he was the greatest political commentators of our time--he will always be remembered for his integrity, honesty and dedication to the field. We lost a great one--so affable and likeable as well!

170. We have lost the most honest, credible and fair political commentator ever to grace the airways. A wonderful, loving and compassionate man who loved life, and blessed all of us by being part of ours. My heartfelt sympathy to his family.

171. It's very sad that an interviewer who isn't afraid to ask the really tough questions without backing down has died so young. He will be missed.

174. I am a Bahamian and I loved watching the American news. I always enjoyed watching Mr. Russert on his shows and found him to be one of the few respectful honest journalists in the news. I had deep respect for Mr. Russert especially after seeing him moderate a few debates with Obama and Clinton. He always was so calm and informative. There was a look on his face always that showed he was a good man and the honour and respect he had for his father is truly admirable. i was so looking forward to seeing him and hearing his input during the upcoming political season. This is truly a great lost of a mighty good man. Any man who can show his love and respect for his father, his family and his job and work at it all so emphahtically and tirelessly IS A GREAT MAN! This is such a loss to lose him so soon and this way. Who can replace him! He will truly be missed! REST IN PEACE MR. RUSSERT!

175. 89. Today is a great day for New York! Finally, this douchebag is gone :-) Anyone that knew and worked with this guy, knows that he was a total a$$hole and a prick. For all you simpathizers, i wish you'd known him or worked with him to see where most of us are coming from.

Today is the day New York should have a parade to celebrate the passing of this A-hole.

F U Tim!

I hope you rot in hell you piece of human garbage! What kind of person are you to talk such hate about someone you don't even know you sociopath? With the type of behavior you display, I wouldn't be surprised that you are one lonesome miserable beast.

179. It's a shame Russert's doctor didn't do more. Stress Tests have a track record of almost being
worthless. Some statins to lower cholesterol hurt the heart unless Co-enzyme Q-10 is also taken.
It is not clear to me if the doctors knew that Tim's heart muscles were thickening. If they did,
it should have be a warning to do more tests. It looked like 10 years since his CAT scan also. They should have done another, heck, he had enough money to pay for it himself!

I immediately signed up for the next cardio-screening test in my area, I'm 57 and this is scarey.

180. My heart breaks and also goes out to Tim's family and his friends. He was such a strong, brilliant man..not many like him anymore.
God bless you Tim..God bless your family and friends.
