Tim Russert Autopsy: He Had an Enlarged Heart

A clot in Tim Russert's left artery led to his heart attack on Friday, an autopsy report has revealed. He suffered from asymptomatic coronary artery disease. Tim's physician was surprised, saying Russert had a stress test in April that came back normal.

Russert was paid tribute today on "Meet the Press", the show he hosted for the last 17 years. Tom Brokaw took over hosting duties for the day to show highlights of Russert's career and life.

18. Why is it that news media have such a hard time describing almost any medical condition? Don't you have medical people who can translate into "layman's" terms? I read so many things about various medical conditions that are almost nonsensical.

Which left artery? Was it it actually "plugged" up by a clot or was there narrowing? If he had a tendency to clots I think there are blood tests that would have indicated this. I doubt that this came out of nowhere. This vagueness just contributes to people becoming fearful.

19. These stress tests are garbage, wasting time and money. I live in a tiny town, and I can cite far too many people who pass these stress tests only to die a short time later. I'm beginning to think the stress tests are harmful.

20. Okay, I just went back and read the comments. Enough with trying to figure out why Tim caused his own death. There are some people who are destined to die of heart attacks, no matter what! There are plenty of slim, non-smoking, active, health-conscious people who die of heart attacks while jogging. Show some compassion.

22. TMZ.........You astound!!! Get your facts straight, do your homework, as Tim would say.... In an interview with Russert's doctor, Andrea Mitchell asked him to explain How In The World could he have a normal stress test April 29th and be dead 6 wks later? His doctor said it was QUITE NORMAL because Tim's condition was NOT INTERIOR artery blockage so his blood flow was fine, which is what, among other things, that stress test was for.

24. To Kelli and ????

Tim was totally brutal to Hillary in the debate by giving her some tough looks and even tougher questions. In all the years I've watched Tim, he was never that mean spirited. It was even parodied on SNL.

My thoughts and prayers go out to all who loved and admired Tim.

25. Tim's death came as a complete surprise to me, but I must say, he died doing what he loves. I always watched Tim on Meet The Press, The Today Show, MSNBC and CNN - he will truly be missed, especially by me. He made me come to appreciate and understand politics and for that I will miss him dearly.

R.I.P. Tim and may GOD bless your family.

27. There are different types of stress tests. There is one that is more state of the art. Thallium I think is injected into you. There are pics taken before stress and after. Then you walk till your heart is beating quite profoundly then anther group of x-ray/pic are taken checking for blockages. I think this is the best stress test and not at all harmful. I would be curious to know if this is the type Tim had. Neverthless the heart is a diffcult muscle to figure out and as my cardilologist told me there are many things we still don't understand about the heart. MANY people all ages drop dead of heart attackes young and old. fat and skinny. I have seen it in my own lifetime I have seem non smokers drop over dead, and a relative lived till nearly 90 smoking on the death bed, as so to speak. Go figure!!

28. DOCTORS KNEW HE HAD CORONARY ARTERY DISEASE. I CAN VOUCH THAT STRESS TESTS MEAN NOTHING. YOU HAVE TO SEE INSIDE THE HEART. HIS DOCTOR SHOULD HAVE ORDERED A HEART CATH. THAT WAY HE COULD HAVE SEEN INSIDE THE HEART AND PROBABLY SAVED HIS LIFE. 58 YRS OLD , TOO YOUNG. HE WILL BE MISSED BY THE PUBLIC AND SYMPATHY GOES OUT TO HIS FAMILY.
