Hats Off To Johnny Depp

12-year-old Jack Taylor from Wisconsin has good taste in headgear.

Recently the young lad met Johnny Depp on the set of his new film "Public Enemies." His one request? He wanted the fedora Depp was sporting during the meet n' greet. Depp said he'd gladly pass it along when he's done with it.

After Jack's parents sent a letter reminding the production company of Depp's promise, they received a box in the mail. Inside ... the hat!

No word on which kid got a hold of the finger knives Depp wore in "Edward Scissorhands".

16. I have never heard anything but positive comments about Johnny Depp. I would sooo love to meet him, if only just to say how much I admire his work, and his classiness, and all of the good things I've heard regarding what a fantastic dad he is to his kids! I love you Johnny!

17. It takes a lot of nerve for a kid already lucky enough to visit a movie set to ask for the star's hat. Yeah, he's not spoiled (?!). You can tell he's a product of his parents because they sent a letter "reminding" the studio that Johnny's gotta cough up his hat. Well, my hat's off to Johnny for saying yes when he really didn't need to. That guy's alright!

18. I was thinking the same thing Billy Bob. The parents send him a letter "reminding" him??? That is tacky and rude. Nice people dont "remind" someone that they want a gift.

19. Thank God the little man got rid of ONE of his ugly hats! He should give them all away. He looks like a idiot wearing them. And while he's at it he can donate those ugly stinky boots of his and the jeans with holes in them. He's 45! The little Pirate is too old to wear them anymore.

21. Thank goodness there are nice actors. I just wish all hollywood would take some tips from Johnny and GIVE, GIVE, to their fans, because it's their fans that make them rich. Johnny D. you earn an A++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

22. Those parents should teach their child NOT to ask for anything so personal from anybody! Just because he's famous and can buy a new one, that hat is Depp's trademark. It was rude of the kid to ask for it and it was especially rude of the parents to send a letter demanding the hat!! The kid is 12, not 6. He should have better manners than that!!

23. And not trying to be negative...but Johnny Depp left Hollywood to raise his children in FRANCE because he said Hollywood wasn't good enough for his children and didn't want that influence on them...and yet this is where he makes his money from. Sound familiar to any of you haters? I for one, agree! I'd rather raise my kids abroad if I could afford to!

25. Hey why don't all the fan boys and girls ask Depp for something of his during thoses meet & greats. Lets see how many people actually get the stuff. The little Pirate never should have started this. I mean it's not like the kid was sick or anything.
And I agree, the parents are wrong teaching the kid to ask for things from strangers.

27. Most people doen't know this, but when he was in London filming, his kid got really sick & almost died. Doctors saved the child, and Depp was so grateful that, not only did he donate $2 Million to the hospital and invite some doctors & nurses to his film's premiere, but he had his Captain Jack Sparrow costume flown to London, and he visited the kids ward in full costume, reading them bedtime stories as Captain Jack.

This guy is the exact opposite of all the jerks in hollywood. He's a talented international movie star, yet appears to be more or less unaffected by it, and is a regular person. There ought to be more like him...

Actually, he has said in interviews that he's moving to France because not only is the kid's mother from there, but they have very strict anti papparazzi laws there. Psycho-razzi's who camp out in people's yards or ambush them or pull all the crap these jerks do are thrown in jail in France; they're not given a slap on the wrist like here in LA. If I had kids & wanted to raise them in a sane enviornment, Hollywood is the LAST place I'd live in. Him moving to France makes perfect sense, particularly if I'm putting their lives ahead of my own.

29. Johnny's always been a class act. A little crazy maybe but classy.

Your AD here!; Get a clue. Most movies make a lot more money abroad than here. After all, there are a lot more people in the rest of the world. Just cause we think the US is the best country doesn't mean it's the biggest. There are a number of films which were financial and critical successes outside the US that bombed here.
Also, consider that not many films are made in the US anymore because it's too expensive. The Pirates trilogy was filmed in the Caribbean for the most part and that's the highest grossing film Depp's ever been in. You really should check your facts before bitching at them.

30. I think he learned early on in his career the whole being a star thing was a bunch of crap. Just seems to me he doesn't care about being famous like a lot of the other actors out there. He is doing it because he enjoys acting and it just so happens he is good enough at it to make a lot of money. So many out there worry too much about their fame and their image. Too many are obsessed with themselves and can't stand it if someone isn't talking about them or taking pictures. I think if more people got over themselves in Hollywood we the public would have better movies to go see. I just think it is cool that you really never see him whoring himself out to the media. When he has a movie to support, he makes the rounds and does his interviews or whatever and then he goes back to his life. I think it is refreshing that I don't hear about the intimate details of his life. I think its sad that I know more about some of these other celebrities than I do the guy living next door to me. Even if I didn't waste my time on this site at this point in our society you can't escape knowing or hearing rather, about the lives of famous people unless you never watch tv, pick up a magazine, or stay off the internet. I have been a fan of his since I was a wee little girl watching 21 jump street, haha. Not only is he a fantastic actor but the fact that he keeps to himself, does his thing without being up his own ass, and dresses the same way he would if he were a gas station clerk makes me support him even more. He seems to be a genuine human being who acts for the sake of acting and no other reason.

I too thought it was rude of the family to send a letter reminding him to give the hat up. That's life though when you are famous. Everyone wants a piece and normal acts of decency and respect kind of go out the window when most people meet a celebrity.
