I say to you that my father (22yrs military service), father-in-law (24 yrs military service) both were wounded during the wars and my husband 21 yrs (military service) fought for that right of freedom of speech. I call my congressman and senators office and bitch when I don't like what is going on. If you don't like it than we should fix it. Come November we will. That being said... Nancy was no angel or ever mother of the year but Ronald Reagan was the answer to the immediate problems the country faced when he became president...Anybody remember or CARE that the hostages were free and clear almost immediately after RWR took the oath of office?

And, btw, Nancy always had the Bush family pegged from the beginning.

54. To #51 betsy ross, thank you! The Reagan administration did nothing for this country but make it worse. Look at the ridiculous "Star Wars" crap that Reagan wanted implemented. Billions and billions of dollars thrown away on his comic book solution to nuclear war. The numerous military bases he closed. The numerous mentally ill he threw on the streets by closing institutions. Nancy was a selfish woman who did all she possibly could to keep Maureen and Michael from their father. Reagan thought he was John Wayne in the White House, and by the way Wayne was no patriot either. All of you who call us anti-Reagan people are forgetting something. In this country we have the right to disagree, We have the right to call it like it is. The Reagan administration was horrible. They accomplished nothing but ruining America finacailly for God knows how long. Until you have lived through it, don't call us haters. And I suppose you loved Nixon too!

55. John Wayne was more of a patriot than you are. Most of the world now recognizes Reagan's administration as one of the most effective. I bet you thought Bill Clinton was wonderful. And no, most conservatives abhor Nixon thank you very much.

56. OK I got a little hot headed. I shouldn't say you aren't a patriot. I am sure you are. And no, I don't think you are a hater just because you don't love Reagan to pieces. Everyone is due an opinion. But John Wayne was extremely patriotic, unfortunately maybe too conservative for your taste? He even recorded an album talking about the USA and what a good country and how much he loved her. Don't see where he was unpatriotic...

58. Alex, let me lay it down without the insults...
I was in my early twenties, and I remember the Reagan administration as being classically republican...
lots of benefits for big business and the rich, the shutting down of social programs and institutions that
benefitted the poor and powerless. They seemed to just NOT CARE about anyone but the wealthy white elite.
Reagan had been an actor. He was all about ACTING the role of a strong, patriotic president, like a John Wayne type
(nothing against John Wayne personally) but what does that MEAN? Years later, the image is stronger than ever, and
people idolize reagan and his wife. He may have gotten some things right, but not much. He was not a caring man with broad vision.
