Violent Surfers Shred Paps Over McConaughey

A group of surfers just got gnarly on a group of paps -- all over photos of beach king Matthew McConaughey!

Around 12 photographers were on the beach in Malibu Saturday afternoon trying to get shots of Matty hitting the surf, when an all-out smackdown was laid on the pappers by turf-protecting surfers.

One pap was hit in the face and we're told suffered a broken nose, while another was thrown into some rocks and had his camera smashed. McConaughey was not involved in the ruckus.

Police tell us a battery report was filed by one photographer but no arrests have been made.

A rep for Matthew has yet to get back to us.

76. Hip Hip Horray, For Lindsay, Britney, Tom, Katie, Suri, Brad and Angie. The police need to start arresting these papparazzi for stalking, harrassment ect. I heard that most of these photographers are from other countries and many are here illegally!

77. There are many rich, famous, and public figures who live in Malibu. To believe that the Paps would not take pictures of the families on the beach is laughable. Of course they were, they already had Matthew cornered and were hoping to pick up any extra action . Public beach or not they need to conduct themselves way more professionally if they expect to continue in there professions. ( the photographers in Paris taking Princess Diana's pictures in the Tunnel were also doing there job, including taking pictures of her dying after they caused the car crash)

80. You guys are not making any sense. You are rewarding these people for beating up the paps, who provide the photos for your entertainment. You guys come to TMZ - you do realize that everytime you click on this site, you are paying a paps paycheck, right?

You want laws to keep photographers from taking these sorts of candid photos, but you're coming here for them. What exactly do you want?

82. Good!! Paps arer a bunch of losers. "i called the cops already, there on there way" ...that was funny. They can invade peoples privicy with ruthlessness but once someone threatens them, they turn into little girls.

There was A time that celebs could walk among the average folk, but the last few years the celebs can hardly come out and hang with their fans and have fun with them, used to be one or two paps that where respectable, but now days it's A swarm. And their rude, disrespectful and place every one in danger. we the people miss our celeb freinds coming out to play with us because these photog are so rude. ROCK N ROLL MY SURFER BRO'S.

86. Look at the videoclip.. that guy in the shirt deserved to get punched.. he swung his weapon at the surfers before getting punched.. followed by another pap striking that same weapon against the surfer.. I hope those paps get sued for harrassment..

90. i think i see the problem... it was a bunch of EUROTRASH photogs who should've been off shooting a soccer riot but were instead doing the job that all socal locals hate. The photog's mistake was trying to defend their right to be-annoying @ the beach with their zoom lenses and unwashed euro-smells. Yes the photogs had a right to be there BUT they blew it by not-respecting the ways which one should photograph-surf and they were not on public-beach from what i saw from the waterlines in the video (which would irritate any local who knows the high-waterline rules)... furthering the problem was their talking-back in their european accents and then trying to get-physical with guys who are already-pissed and have god-knows-what flowing through their systems... of course those euros got the smakdown laid on them... they're very lucky it wasn't a bigger mele with a lot more broken cameras and euro bodyparts than it was.
