Carnage in the TMZ

We've covered the nightlife in the Thirty Mile Zone for three years -- but sometimes the club scene goes terribly, terribly wrong.

Our cameras began rolling around 2:30 AM, moments after an unidentified woman was smashed into by an SUV outside of STK and left motionless in the street as the allegedly boozed up driver sped off -- unaware of the bloody disaster she left in her wake.

As the suspect drove away, the victim's boyfriend chased down the SUV and pulled the driver out of the car. The confrontation is the most powerful, emotional exchange we've ever caught on tape.

LAPD tells us a girl was arrested for felony hit and run and DUI. We're told the victim suffered a broken pelvis, but she'll be fine.

UPDATE: The driver of the car -- who sources confirm is the girl we got on camera afterwards -- registered a .17 blood alcohol content. Legal limit in California is .08.

76. I think Boyfriend was in shock and didnt know what to do and thought (wrongly) that it was his duty to make sure the driver got taken to the pokey. But I applaud him , my BF wouldve done the same.

78. Why is the 'boyfriend' being so touchy feely nice with the driver who just about killed his 'girlfriend'. I would be pissed if I was laying on the pavement alone while my 'boyfriend' was hugging the one who hit me. Just sayin...

80. No question the boyfriend did a wonderful thing stopping the driver. Not only for the sake of justice, but also because there is no telling what other damage she might have done before reaching her destination. Props to him for that. However, I agree with other posters that there seemed to be more than enough people at the scene to contain the driver so he could go back to his girl. I have to wonder how she will feel when she is recovering and sees this video. I wish her a speedy recovery, and hope that this video does not just add to her pain.

81. Kudos to homeboy for not knocking that broad out. He was very forgiving. I am not so sure his road kill girl will be when she gets out of the hospital.

84. I agree with another poster from earlier this morning in thinking that perhaps the boyfriend was afraid to go back. I'm not sure, but did anyone else hear some other witness around the SUV yell out in the background "she's dead. she's like dead"? TO the boyfriend I might add? It didn't sound like it was a "I hope she's not dad, man" type of dialogue. It sounded like either the person really thought so or perhaps they were just trying to incite something with all the cameras rolling. Either way, I do think he was genuinely worried, and it appeared he might have downed a few himself, so between him *possibly* being intoxicated himself, cameras in his face, and a g/f several yards away that was obviously injured, and possibly dead for all he knew..... it makes sense to me that all his actions wouldn't probably be the "best reactions."

No one ever knows how they are going to react to a situation like that, until it happens, and I certainly don't wish that on anyone to find out. Cut him some slack. None of us know what was going through his head, and the fact that he did appear genuinely worried and concerned over his g/f is enough for me to realize he just begun acting irrational there at the end most likely. Someone is yelling at you that your g/f is lying yards away from you dead, you might react the same way. His brain might have just went into auto mode and it was at a point where he knew the driver just wasn't going to get away from this; and if he was being genuine about his g/f and I truly believe he was, he might have been the type of man that if he thought she was dead def. since someone was saying in the background that she was -- it was his irrational way of holding back his own emotions (that most men would and do) and consoled her, in an attempt to console himself.

It's clear he thought his g/f might have been dead when he says, "Someone has to answer for my girl." The camera man was 100% wise in understanding what he was fearing, and he quickly responded "she's alive." So, take it easy guys.... no one knows what was going through the b/f's head, especially when that drunk moron was so blitzed out of her mind that she's smiling and smirking one minute, faking sobbing the next, then genuinely sobbing at some later point, etc etc.

85. I was really impressed with how the boyfriend kept his cool. I would have been a lot more aggressive with this little idiot. What creeps who said he was groping the drunk....he was in shock as well from what he had witnessed and was not coming on to the drunk....stupid idiot.
Back to the real hero...the boyfriend who did say that because he had to find the drunk he couldn't be comforting his girl...

86. I completely agree with the others, that boyfriend was great for chasing down the driver but then he turned skeevy...when your woman is laying on the pavement after getting plowed down, you don't sit and hug up against the person that did it, no matter how upset they are. He was way too touchy feely with that driver. Not a pat on the shoulder saying calm down, but hugging up on each other. If I was the woman on the pavement and recovered and saw that, he'd be history.

87. First and foremost, this footage should be shown in driving school. This is a great example of what you shouldn't do and the effects of your actions. This young lady will have to live with her poor judgement the rest of her life and it was all caught on tape. TMZ should be applauded for this and it should receive national attention! And let's not judge the boyfriend. He was a hero to go run and catch her and then diffuse her hysteria. She was slurring and her emotions were running HIGH. POWERFUL STUFF! Good work TMZ!

88. I think this is the BEST video you have shown us on this site (so far) I am happy that your camera man was there to capture the moments where the boyfriend caught up with the hit and run driver. The Boyfriend should get a medal for keeping relatively calm with the lady after having to chase her down the street. I was also impressed with the way he tried to calm her down when she started to get emotional. That's a good man right there. My thoughts and prayers go out to the young lady that was hit...a broken pelvis is not a minor injury and she will be in pain for months!

90. What the hell was the girl doing that she got hit. I hope she wasn't crossing a sidewalk that wasn't there. Also who the hell would allow their friend to drive drunk. If that girl was wasted she should have never been allowed to get in a car. L.A. is scary especially when people drive drunk. Luckily the girl only suffered a broken pelvis which is still very painful but it's better than being dead or stuck in a wheel chair for the rest of your life. The city of Los Angeles really needs to crack down on drunk driving. All the money the spend on useless celebrity escorts for neurotic reasons should be used on check points all along the most popular roads every weekend throughout Los Angeles.
