Send in the Clowns ... Bozo is Dead

BozoLarry Harmon, the man credited with making Bozo the Clown the icon he was, died Thursday of congestive heart failure. He was 83.

Harmon wasn't the original Bozo, but built up the character and eventually licensed it to television stations across the country.

76. My father played Bozo for the Austin television station in the late '60's. Larry Harmon is the person who hired him and trained him in the art of being Bozo. Dad tells me he was a truly a great guy.

79. In ancient times, like the late 50's and early 60's, there wasn't much kid programming. I grew up in the Chicago area and Bozo and Ringmaster Ned were my daily lunchtime companions. Always good clean fun and who can forget the Bozo Buckets game? So exciting to watch kids toss ping-pong balls into buckets and win toys. May he rest in peace, he certainly brought a lot of joy into my young life.
