Susan Atkins -- Denied

Susan AtlkinsBrain cancer won't get you an early release from prison, not if you're Susan Atkins.

The California parole board denied the application for release by the jailed Manson follower. Atkins, who was diagnosed with brain cancer and may have only six months to live, had applied for Compassionate Release Consideration.

The L.A. County D.A. argued against it, saying, "[Atkins] has failed to demonstrate genuine remorse and lacks insight and understanding of the gravity of her crimes."

Atkins received the death penalty but it was commuted to life after the California death penalty was ruled unconstitutional.

46. I agree she shouldn'r be released, but even if she were, where would she go? She obviously wouldn't be getting a job. Does she have family left that would take her in? I'm sure she doesn't have medical insurance and can't get any. She would end up in a state paid hospice unit with strangers. Really, what difference does it make where she dies? The tax payers will be footing the bill. She stays where she is. A life sentence is exactly that. Should we let Manson himself out if he becomes terminally ill? I don't think so!

47.
The difference is that she was supposed to be put to death years ago, and why should the moron who married her after her crimes, be allowed to comfort her in her dying days, in the privacy of their own home.

48.
perhaps the dreadful day wasn't entirely
her decision and she's still without remorse,

we just have to respect a woman
that does exactly what she's told;

49. She's had compassionate release already. Decades of free college, medical, conjugal visits, and painkillers. Something her victims never had. And please don't tell someone tell me that releasing her save the taxpayers' money. She'll continue to get medical care no matter what and her family damn sure isn't going to clean up after her or foot the bill when they weren't even there for the trial. They'll just get a book deal out of the publicity.

50. you did the crime now you do the time!
she needs to die right where she is. i could care less if she was in a coma & wanted out! She as 17 yrs old when she commited themurder she needs to die right where she is ! No excuses she needs to serve her sentence handed down by a jury of her peers!
End of Story!

51. life in prison means life in prison, you get out when you die, i'm sorry for her family, but i'm a lot more sorry for the Tate's Sebrings Folger's et al, she has lived 40 years longer than her victims

52. Who made some of you "god", what susan and others did was WRONG, WRONG, WRONG, but now she is dying, and probably not in her right mind.

The hate spewed on here is no better than what Manson and his zombies did to Sharon and others.

Only god have the power to judge NOT YOU!!!

53. Did she use the argument that everyone she killed got to die at home?

54. With Atkins gone it will be one less parole hearing that Deborah Tate and the other survivors will have to attend every so often. It never ends for the families. The whole Manson Family should have been executed years ago and the families wouldn't have to relive the terror and pain constantly. Remember there was more than one crime scene. Later on they murdered the that poor couple the LoBianci's. If they had any remorse after the Tate murders, they wouldn't have sought out even more victims. You let Atkins go and it sets a precedence for the rest of the Manson Family.

55. The right choice, she did not care when she killed Tate she why should we care now that she has cancer and want to get out out before she dies, Susan has not yest once said sorry to the families to this day. Susan should of died years ago but California over turned the death penalty.

56. I was a teenager at the time of the murders and lived not too far from the Tate-Polanski residence. I still remember the terror the whole community lived in until these animals were caught Of coursse, that's nothing compared to what the victims and their familes went through. Suaan made her choices. Even if she was "brainwashed" by Manson, she chose to take drugs and hook up with this nut case in the first place.

57. That's fantastic news! I hope the rest of the "manson family" suffer the same fate but worst.

58. Finally, to see justice served. The entire Manson family should have been executed for their crimes a long time ago. They have had 3 square meals a day, health care & all of this at the expense of tax payers. Susan Adkins should be tortured the way she tortured and murdered Sharon Tate and that of her unborn child.

59. At this point, keeping her in jail is just vindictive. It's being the same kind of monster she was. American's are so angry and spiteful. Let her die in sunshine. Simple human compassion. It's not that hard.

60. Ummm, is she stupid? Why should SHE get to have any freedom whatsoever, regardless of her condition? I'm so glad that she was denied.
