The David Beckham Wad Has Been Blown

David BeckhamIt looks as though the insanity surrounding David Beckham's move to the states is losing steam.

Last year, packed stands and after parties followed his every move as the Los Angeles Galaxy toured the states -- and he was injured most of the time.

When the Galaxy played in Washington this season, attendance for the game was down by over 10,000 -- and last year's game was played on a week night, in the rain and Beck's injuries made an appearance on the pitch iffy. Not to mention the not one, not two, but three invitation only parties in D.C. after the game, according to the NY Times.

At least Victoria's jean line is doing well ...

17. My family are not soccer fans, But I think trying to have one man make this game a real success in the US is crazy. I am really not interested in Victoria and David. I think he is amazingly sexy, but she is not a favorite of mine. I feel that their arrival to the US was overblown. Noboy cared. They hooked up with CRAZY Tom/Katie, and WEIRD Jada/ sorry Will too. I think Victoria wanted them to be the new IT couple, but that has not happened; even though the media keeps pushing them down our throats. I don't get excited by the sport, or this couple...SORRY Oh and David is much smaller than you would expect. I thought he was a really big man in stature but NOT SO

18. I don't doubt that Beckham was a fine player, but he's past his prime and only signed with the L.A. Galaxy for the money. Zidane at least had the class to leave the sport while he was still in good form and wildly popular. And as for looks, Becks has nothing on Pavel Nedved and scores of other players. He was packaged and marketed for the U.S. audience, period.

He's a chav, so is his tattooed wife.

They oughta head back home and raise their boys outside of the glare of celebritydom. What's bad for us is now Katie Price (aka Jordan) has fashioned herself after Victoria (Posh). She and Peter Andre are preparing to subject Americans to their presence. And there'll be another, and another.

Becks was the rage--at home. But Americans couldn't care less. Let's keep it that way.

19. Beckham has done excellent since he came. He single-handedly raised the profile of MLS. Remember, the league is only 12 years young. In about 20 years, soccer will be a top 3 spectator sport in this country. It is inevitable: look at demographics!!! MLB, NFL, you better be scared.
Ah, FYI: MLS has a higher average attendance at the moment that NHL and NBA.

20. At at the end of the day this Beckham thing is nothing more than hyped up show biz! Relentless, forced fed hype and phony PR propaganda. Step aside, take a deep breath and think intelligently with a focused clear head, analyse the substance of it all and what do you see? Yes! A shallow, superficial, semi-intelligent man child who happens to play one of the U.S.A's least popular sports!

21. No Yank, thanks for your charming and informative diatribe on everything that's wrong with America. We've never heard anything like this before and appreciate your unique perspective. Hang on a minute while I ride out this next wave of complete and profound boredom. Okay, phew, that was a big one.

By the way, the World Series was named for a newspaper, the World. I though that had already been explained at least 4,876,243 times in response to all the other asinine Euro bedwetters who think it has something to do with "American arrogance."
