There are reports circulating that Christian Bale was arrested for verbal assault, and one of Bale's reps is echoing that.
Who knew, but we called around jolly old England and found there is such a thing as verbal assault, Class 4 and Class 5. Class 4 is more aggravated than 5, with "an intent to cause alarm."
Was Christian's offense mouthing off to mom? We're checking.

I would hope it is verbal and not physical. Not that either one is acceptable when it comes to your own mom, but even a total scuzz bag knows better than to hit their mom.

There aren't a lot of hard facts circulating about Bale's situation: was he arrested and charged? Or merely questioned in conjunction with the complaint by his mum/sis? And what's the enforcement situation in England like for crimes--especially low crimes like verbal assault--allegedly committed by celebrities? Have their prosecutors decided it's best to move forward with charging him--especially if these charges will likely either amount to just a dismissal or a nominal verdict (a small fine?)? What exactly are the elements of verbal assault? And its aggravating factors? Good god, how are there 5 classes of verbal assaults?! How can you demarcate--not to mention enforce--different levels of nastiness and threat?! Crazy.

A friend of mine got in to it with a neighbor. They were both screaming insults at each other and she called the police! He received a "citation" for VERBAL ASSAULT a Class C misdomenor...............to the tune of $343.00. He has witnesses and has hired an attorney.
