Lil Wayne Plays With Fire, Gets Sued

Lil WayneAnother lil' problem for Lil Wayne -- who's now accused of ripping off the Rolling Stones!

Wayne -- aka the guy behind the lollipop song -- is being sued by a music publishing company that owns the rights to the Rolling Stones song "Play with Fire." Abkco Music Inc. claims that Wayne released an alternate version of the song -- that they're calling "explicit, sexist and offensive" -- without permission.

They're suing for copyright infringement and seeking unspecified damages. A rep at the label could not be reached for comment.

31. I am a white guy and I like Wayne's music but I just download it not buy it. I must say though i think he went way overboard with the tats on the face. It was enough when he had that one drop but now all the drops and the thing between the eyes is the worst. Wayne what were you thinking? To each his own but there is no way he does not regret that. I wonder if you can get a tattoo on your face removed?? I think tattoos in general are going out of style.

32. Unfortunately, I sat here and read all of these silly comments in the hopes that I would find even one that dealt with the topic at hand and not one did. So here is the first one.

I have Wayne's CD so I know his version of Playing with Fire and I have just listened to Rolling Stones' version. For the most part they sound absolutely nothing alike BUT there is one section of the hook also known as the chorus that is somewhat similar. The Stones say, "but don't play with me" in the same tempo that Betty Wright says, "but you can't blame me" on Wayne's song. After that the Stones say, "cause you're playin with fire" and Betty Wright says, "if I set this stage on fire." And the lyrics about the woman wearing diamonds and the finest clothes are in both songs. I actually thought the title of Wayne's song was Set This Stage on Fire. That's what it should be. After careful consideration it is pretty clear to me that the producer or song writer got the idea for Wayne's hook from the Stones' song and did nothing to hide it other than change the words a little. I guess they didn't know Wayne would go platinum in one week and double platinum in 6 weeks when they threw the song on the album. With sales like that it was inevitable that the Stones would find out about the song on Wayne's album and want a piece which I must say they deserve and I am a die hard Lil Wayne fan. Too bad Wayne's camp didn't pay up front because it's likely the Stones will get more for the song now that Wayne's album has sold faster than any album in the last three years.

As for all you commenters you shouldn't stereotype black people and you shouldn't stereotype rappers. Despite his hideous face tats and silly grill, Wayne is no a gangster rapper. He actually raps about serious topics on much of this album and has gone back to the old school days of rap where the rapper brags about his rap skills. He does both on this song and even though he says bitch in reference to a woman the song is not offensive per se. And get this,,,,he went to college. WOW. Don't judge a book by it's cover. At least listen to the music so you know what you are talking about.

I just have to give you racists another fast fact about Lil Wayne. Over the past three years, to the dismay of his record label, Wayne has releaseed millions of dollars worth of songs to the public for FREE via web downloads and mixtapes. Many fans say that free music is his best work. How much free music has The Stones releaseed? How many millions do you think they are going to want from Wayne for this song that he probably had no intention of releasing as a single?

33. My favorite post is the one that claims Obama has the IQ of a carrot. If he has the IQ of a carrot after graduating both Columbia University and Harvard Law School, I'd love to compare his intelligence with some of the Roscoe and Cleetus e-racists on here. But that would be like making Gary Coleman box Mike Tyson.

Hey TakeAimandFire, sorry boy, I haven't taken a bus in over twenty years. And I'm sure you WISH I was a high-school dropout, so I could give you just one reason not to perform your nickname on your own head out of depression. However, unfortunately for you, I am your worst nightmare, a minority who more than likely earns several times your annual salary and earned it all on my own without a nickel of the five-dollars you've paid in government taxes during your life. I also get a big kick out of rubbing it in the face of racists such as yourself because I know your life's failure is what motivates your hate.

Sucks to be you right now, especially in this economy. Oh well, Obama will save your ass and give you one more reason to (hopefully) eat a bullet. LMAO

38. No not all people hate black people, and unfortunately people do stereotype our society of minorities, someone mentioned that lil wayne sings about serious topics, lets see how serious these lyrics are " She say I lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-lo-etc..look like a lollipop" another verse goes N'man I aint never seen a *** like hers and that Pu**y in my mouth had me at a loss fo words," Thats real serious topics "Right?" And Im sure hes not talking about candy , So serious stuff NO NO NO NO, now lets talk about real rappers who talk about helping their community and people pull forward, Common a educated black man who is trying to help his people by leading by example. So their are good in bad in all people of different colors, but unfortunately the rappers dont help out their educated black men who are trying to make a difference, and the educated black men should pull together to stop the exploitation of the negative stereotype in their communities. Use your knowledge and financial power that you have to help your people,

42. Rappers have the reputations they do for two reasons:

1) Most of what they are accused of is true and;

2) they have NO TALENT. Anybody can put a melody and rhyme to racist, sexist, crude, vile words. Only in Amerrica can 95% of the people you guys at TMZ report on, who contribute nothing to society DAILY, make millions and get constant publicity.

You are wallowing in the gutter as much as they are. Twisted man, very, very twisted!

43. You cannot seriously be comparing this guy to the Stones...lol...if he's so great and his music is so "pure" then he should have problem coming up with his own stuff....not copying from legends...bet he will try from now on when this is over..*S*
