TMZ Wayback Machine -- Leon Russell Sued

If you're still with us, legendary keyboardist Leon Russell is being sued by ex-wife Mary Bridges, former member of Sly & the Family Stone's background vocal group Little Sister, for breach of contract. According to a lawsuit filed yesterday, when the couple divorced back in 1980, they were supposed to split all profits from their joint albums. But Bridges claims Russell hasn't been forking over any dough.

She's asking for damages in excess of $75,000. Attempts to contact Russell were unsuccessful.

19. Leon Russell is an amazing person. He is still touring all over the county consistently. I just saw him twice while he was in No. Cal and he puts out the most awesome concert. He has released original CD's last year. Mary just wants his money. He deserves to be in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. People should read more about him and what he has accomplished.

23. This could and should be settled amicably, not in a courtroom.
I find myself struggling with the notion that Leon would intentionally deprive Mary of any monies due her,
as I don't believe he has that kind of heart.

I think that the editors of TMZ do music a disservice by making their smug little smartass comment,
"If you were born after 1965, just scroll on by this one."
Really? Tell that to all the folks who've been making headway on American Idol singing Leon Russell songs.
Tell it to all the folks who have been inducted into the RRHOF and who got their start working with the man
while he gets routinely snubbed by the organization.

I think TMZ Staff's dissing of Leon is inappropriate and uncalled for, and it's very convenient that they
choose to hide behind the anonymous byline. Go soak your heads guys...there isn't a single member
of the music scene today that doesn't owe Leon a debt of gratitude.
