Yankee Fan Proud that A-Rod Plays the Field
A Yankee never forgets, so all it took for Alex Rodriguez to break his silent stint in NYC yesterday was for one fan to bring up the past.

16. Great game tonight. Too bad the umpire sucked. I hate losing to the Yankees but at least if the umpire knows what he's doing, it's a loss fair and square. Not saying we necessarily would have won. Joba was really on tonight and Rivera was lights out but when an umpire's bad calls have that much affect on a game, it's bad for baseball.
Your Mom, so you're saying you have absolutely never made an typo? Her english grammar was perfectly acceptable.
EBEAR, how many banjo players in your family? You made even more errors than coolgirl did. If you're going to hassle someone about their spelling and grammar, you have to proofread and be totally accurate. Otherwise you come off as a total idiot.
I don't completely agree with coolgirl. I have found intelligence and stupidity in both jocks and goths, and in most other "labels". But Your Mom and EBEAR, you just demonstrated that you're representing for the idiot side.

17. Of course, I just noticed that my proofreadiing was insufficiently careful. Luckily, I consider the occasional typo to be one of the hazards of commenting.

19. Hey BJ..... No disrespect on your part just the other arrogant Boston fans. The game was definately close and didnt agree with some calls by the umpires. BTW you know I rooted for Boston in the series last year ..... My best friend is a Red Sox fan! But enjoy chatting with an intelligent Baseball fan like you! Sorry to say but ..........
Go Yanks!!!

20. Sorry-----Baaaston, Not a problem. I can always agree to disagree if everybody's polite about it. My mother, sister and her husband are all Yankees fans and we always have fun discussing the game and comparing players. I agree that there are some absolute idiot fans on both sides. I have always been offended by the " 'team' s**ks" chants. I also wish that the papers would stop focusing on ARods's personal life. It would have been nice if he'd shown a little more sense and kept it all on the down low but really, what I care about is his playing and how soon he can take the home run title away from Bonds so we can ignore the asterisk. If he doesn't get hurt, he should do it fairly quickly. I hope he gets a lot of home runs just so long as he doesn't hit them off the Red Sox.
Of course, I despise the media on both sides who inflame people with their lies. To hear Yankees fans boo Papelbon for what he never said was disgusting. Anyone who actually listened to the interview, heard him say that he had only respect for Rivera, that he was competitive and would love to close if that was the role assigned to him. He never said he deserved to close more than Mariano did. I think that booing at the All-Star game is never appropriate. If you're lucky enough to get a seat, you should recognize that you're watching the best players in both leagues. Those guys deserve only cheers. I don't know how many real baseball fans were there because the lousy fans were too loud.
And now I climb down off my soap-box having finished today's rant.

21. Well the whole Madonna thing is crap...Hasnt effected my boy at all....But really what is with the whole Joba/Youkilis deal? That to me seemed really weird.... and dont blame him for being pissed... There is a history there...strange. I am watching the game again on YES encore!

24. Sorry-----Baaaston, As I remember it, the first time Joba pitched against Boston last year, he threw two succesive balls over Youkilis's head. One of them missed by inches. He's also thrown behind Youkilis once or twice. I don't think there was ever any intent on Joba's part although he did get ejected from the first game.
But Youkilis is a very fierce competitor. He even had an argument with Manny earlier this year when he thought Manny wasn't taking the game seriously enough, i.e. getting to the stadium late, not taking enough practice, etc. They patched it up quickly but Manny's been on his best behavior (as far as his playing is concerned) ever since.
It's possible that Joba is just unnerved at facing Youk's fierceness again. Psyched out or something. and he starts making mistakes. Not enough so we won the game but still.
As far as Big Papi trades, anything is possible but I'll believe it when I read it in the Herald. Papi's a franchise player. He's got too many good years left in him and we have no replacement if we do trade him. Plus, what would we get that would be worth it? A few relievers? A shortstop? Maybe a starter? I think we're doing sufficiently well in those areas that trading Papi would be a mistake but Theo will do whatever he thinks is best for the team. We do need a really good shortstop since Lugo's on the DL but who would we trade for and what would we give up. There's some talk of a straight up trade, Alex Cora for Juan Uribe but Cora's really popular here in the clubhouse and with the fans and the team's comeradery has been a major part of our success '04 and '07.
There's some talk going around that Hank wants to bring Bonds into your town. I know that he'd be burned in effigy on the Common if they were stupid enough to bring him to the Red Sox but how would There's talk here about the Red Sox taking an interest in Barry Bonds but I don't think front office is that stupid. We'd be burning him in effigy on the Common along with Theo and the rest of management that approved that deal.New York fans react to him. I can see the desire for a strong bat since several of your good hitters are on the DL right now but would it really look god to have the guy who stole the Home Run record playing next to the guy who's going to win it fair and square?

25. BJ- Yes I saw all the games but curious did Youkilis and Joba have any altercations on or off the field or was it just at home plate? Even i know last night wasnt intentional it still doesnt add up that it would only happen to one player that he has a history with....Well the trade with the Pirates went through which I think was a good one! Hope Big Papi stays with Boston I think he is happy there for now.......As far as Manny being Manny I was surprised that him and Youkilis had it out... but I saw it for myself!!!! Good luck this afternoon.....Should be another interesting game!

26. Sorry-----Baaaston, I don't know of any off field altercation between Youk and Joba. Youk may be one of those guys who gets very upset when he thinks the pitcher is putting him in danger. He never reacts that way when he gets hit in the hand or wrist although he's had to sit out a lot of games over the years because he's been hit by a pitch there. Maybe he saw a friend of his get badly hurt by a beanball when he was in the minors or younger. Remember how furious Zimmer got when he felt that Pedro Martinez was threatening to bean a Yankee batter back in '03
I'm looking forward to today's game.

27. Oh yeah and for Pedro to knock the old man to the ground was uncalled for to say the least. But thats what we expect from the rivalry. Thats why I would never miss one of these games.....always some kind of drama going on! But I still respect Pedro and glad he is on the Mets although he seems to spend alot of time on the DL lately.

28. S-B, Pedro has always been a bit fragile. He always threw much harder than someone his size should have been able to and it was bound to cause him problems eventually. From what I saw on the tapes of the Pedro/Zimmer incident, Pedro didn;t so much throw him as guide Zimmer away from him and let Zimmer's own momentum carry him down. If Pedro had just side-stepped, the result would have been the same and Pedro wouldn't be blamed for it. There's always two sides to any story. There's also been the question of whether Pedro was saying, "I am going to bean you" or "If I'd wanted to bean you I could, that's why I only hit you in the body". Body language is short hand and not always easy to interpret. People always put the worst interpretation they can on things said by the other side.
This game is not going well for the Sox. I am not happy. Come on, boys. We just need one good inning.

29. I am not saying Pedro punched him or anything.....I saw the game live and saw the tapes many times. Zimmer was getting in his face and he did what you, me and anyone else would if someone got in our face is just give a shove. But the difference is Pedro is young and an athlete and Zimmer is old and out of shape so of course he went down! I never took sides on that one.... I think they were both at fault. But to most people watching from the outside Baseball fan or not found it to be uncalled for and unprofessional on Pedro's part..............Yeah I kind of wished it was a closer game but like they say it aint over til its over!!!!

30. S-B, I knnow yo didn't say Pedro punched Zimmer although a lot of people did. You've got a better head on your shoulders than most people (in other words, you agree with me.) But it was a class act on Zimmer's part to apologize to all of baseball for his actions. I wish Pedro had that kind of class.
Oh, well, I was sure we were going to win this one. Especially since Wake had his good knuckleball early on. But that new reliever of yours is good.
Better luck tomorrow (For us I mean.)
