Yankee Fan Proud that A-Rod Plays the Field
A Yankee never forgets, so all it took for Alex Rodriguez to break his silent stint in NYC yesterday was for one fan to bring up the past.

31. Hahahahahaha.....Like I said to you before I have been watching Baseball for over 30 years! Yeah I know you have 20 years on me and this is not the first time I posted to you on the Baseball boards. I usually use different names due to people impostering your "unique name"! But nobody can imposter you due to your knowledge of Baseball. So we are playing Sunday night on ESPN.......What is the pitching matchup for tomorrow night? BTW that picture of Madonna today? EEEWWW!!! No way A-ROD is hitting that!!!!

33. S-B, MLB says it should be Ponson v Lester. Looks like Ponson has a better record but Lester has a better ERA. Probably come down to the bullpens again unless one pitcher is absolutely fabulous tomorrow. Or (shock horror) the fielders. We've both had pretty good defense in the past but sometimes hitters just beat the shift or the ball takes funny hops. But that's part of what makes baseball so much fun. It is never predictable. The best statisticians still can't accurately predict a game's outcome or even a season's. And have you ever noticed how every really good team was one team in the bottom of the standings that they cannot beat. There's no way that Kansas City should be able to beat Tampa Bay but they did.
I have had people appropriate my screen-name or one of the others I've used but they never manage to write in my style and it's pretty obvious that they're not really me so I ignore them unless they're really irritating in which case I'll fire back and take them down a peg or two. Usually it's just not worth it.
Unfortunately Tampa won. Oh well, better luck tomorrow. I should probably go to bed soon but I won't. The Night Rules.

36. S-B, Kelli's actually pretty cool but a lot of people have stolen her screen-name and said nasty things pretending to be her. It can be confusing but if you really watch the word usage, you can tell the difference. She and I get along fine and we have several interests in common, including our kids and country music. She doesn't know anything about baseball but she knows her football so it's all good.
So much for going to bed early. I find TMZ addictive when I can find a good discussion going on. A spirited dialogue (or more) even with people who disagree with you can be great.

37. I Guess you could be right but I dont trust some posters. I usually just read TMZ. I only post on the sports boards. I am also a big Football and Basketball fan. Checking out ESPN news now they are talking about possibly trading Manny? They interviewed Big Papi and of course he has "no comment" hahahahaha Things seem to be stirring up in Boston. This could be an interesting next couple of months! Looking forward to tonights game.

38. S-B, yeah, Papi's not going to comment on anything. He has too much sense. I'm not surprised that Manny's asking to be traded. I think last year is the only year he hasn't asked to be traded. They are unlikely to trade him because they'd probably have to eat part of his contract because no other team is going to want to pay him as much as he was signed for. I kinda hope they don't trade him because he's fun to watch when he's not making an ass of himself and he really is good both with the bat and the glove. The Big Monster is hard to play and I don't want to go into the late season while trying to train a new left fielder.
So far tonight's game is much better than Friday or saturday. But as my sister-in-law said, this is what they get for scheduling a night game on a getaway day. Especially with the uncertain weather we get in the summer.

41. S-B, My bad. I actually did type Big Monster when I meant Green Monster. I think it's because I was thinking of Big Papi because I referred to him as Papi which I sometimes do. Even I'm not perfect, it just seems that way. :-)
But that is exactly what I mean when I say you can usually tell from word usage.

42. Word usage my ass.......I know exactly who you are and your not Baseball Junkie. So enjoy rambling to yourself tonight. I am not buying into your act unless you can provide some real Baseball info. You are just the Loser I always thought you were and yes keep those smiley faces coming. Baseball Junkie provides way more intelligent posts and dont think for a second I didnt see you impostering her all day. Really sad how you try to take over peoples personalities and as an expert on reading people you should just give up while your ahead! Later.....

43. S-B, yes, someone has been doing a lousy job, using all caps, saying go socks, etc. I'd write about the game that just ended but anyone could have listened to the game and know the final score. It is good to see that Terry's putting Jacoby batting 9th has jumpstarted him out of his slump. He was so good at the end of the season last year and then at the end of the ALCS and again in the World Series. There was speculation during spring training that he would be the starting center fielder and they might trade CoCo. I'm glad they didn't since Coco still plays a better defensive center field.
I still say that Manny plays the Green Monster better than many (I almost typed Big Monster again. That's going to be a bugaboo for awhile) The radio announcers (Joe Castiglione and Dave O'Brien) have said that he spends serious time during practice getting people to hit balls off the Green Monster so he can practice fielding the bounces.
It's good to have Big Papi back and it looks like he's not only healthy but he's got his stroke back. 2-4 yesterday was okay but we lost. A home run today in a win is much better.
But hey, you still took 2 out of 3 so the season series is tied 6 and 6 and Tampa lost. Maybe it's not all good for you but it's not all bad either. Of course, now I've spent a lot of time talking about tonight's game when I said at the beginning that it might not prove anything.
Is it my imagination or are ARod and Jeter having some problems fielding lately. At least I keep hearing about Jeter making an error and the ball getting by Arod but that could be selective filtering. I hear about their mistakes and not their good plays because I want to and because that's what the announcers on the local stations want to talk about.
I am not looking forward to playing LA next after what they did to us on the West Coast. Bad enough losing a series to you in our home park. But LA? I know, I know, they're really a good team this year. Best record in all of MLB. The rest of their division is crap but that alone shouldn't put them that high since they have to play against teams in other divisions. And what the heck is wrong with the NL West. Only Arizona is over .500. I think I heard that Colorado sold a lot of their players over the winter and that could explain it but I am always surprised when management does such a stupid thing as that. Of course that's kind of what our management did after 2004. I think that there were fewer than 12 members of the 2003 team on the 2005. At least that's what I think I remember from when I read Johnny Damon's book. Of course that was when he was still with us. I know of a lot of people here in Boston who burned the book when he jumped ship. And do you remember the first game when he came back to Fenway as a Yankee. People in the stands were throwing dollar bills at him. Nice symbolism but a waste of money. I was angry enough at him that I picked up the "Looks like Jesus, Talks like Judas, Throws like Mary" t-shirt. I don't wear it that often anymore because it's not as funny now that he's been with you a few years. He's healthier than I expected he would be by now. I thought Steinbrenner was an idiot to offer him a 4 year contract considering he'd started to get hurt but moving him to left field seems to have helped and he has always been one to gut through the pain. I just wouldn't want to be in his body when he gets old. They say that Joe Namath is in constant pain from what he did to his body while he was playing. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if his putting the moves on that female reporter on the sidelines wasn't more a result of the pain killers making him loopy than alcohol. But I could be wrong. I think everyone just wanted to sweep that under the rug.
I stand by what I said earlier regarding Papi and his common sense. I think he must be one of the most intelligent men currently playing. I remember when he first came to Boston, his English was so bad that he had trouble conducting post-game interviews. He still has a strong accent but his comments on the game and explanations of how things went are very good. He's far more articulate than 'Tek although I think Lowell still has him beat. Papi is going to be a big league manager one of these years.
And Manny, for all that he lived in the Bronx for many years still has trouble making himself understood in English. Then again I suppose he might not have all that much to say. He's been stung a lot by sportswriters misreporting or misinterpreting what he said that he refused to talk to the press for several years. That and the fact that he probably can't explain what he does because he plays in a Zen state. (Not that he's ever said so but that's what it looks like)
Speaking of managers, do you remember Gabe Kapler? He ruptured is left Achilles tendon when he tripped on the turf at Toronto going from 2nd to 3rd. It caused one of the freakier umpiring decisions that I know of. When he got hurt he was running on a hit that turned out to be a homer. He was lying there screaming in pain but the rules say that you can only put a pinch runner in when the player they're running for is one base and if a player passes another on the base path he's out and the runs don't count.. He tried to gut it out an crawl to third and home but he just couldn't do it. After standing over him for awhile watching the trainers work on him and listening to the Terry and the Toronto manager argue the umpire eventually declared that since it was a home run and he was badly injured they'd allow a pinch runner and all the runs counted. He came back the next season but took 2006 off to manage as I said. (I was at the game and when they brought him in near the end of the game they played "Welcome Back", the theme to the old TV show and he got a standing O) He tried managing for a year in the Red Sox farm system (North Carolina or something like that. I didn't even know we had a minor league down there.) but he's up with the Brewers now.
I don't know if I'll be able to put all of this in one comment or not. We'll see.
