Puerto Rico to "Idol": No Gracias!

American IdolWhat if you held "American Idol" auditions and no one showed up?! Not paging Nigel Lythgoe!

On Saturday, "A.I." held one of their typical open call auditions in San Juan, Puerto Rico and instead of the usual capacity crowds lined up practicing their awful renditions of tired Whitney Houston standards, according to El Nuevo Dia, only around 300 fools turned out. Ay dios mio! In contrast, last month 7,000 wannabe Taylor Hicks' camped out overnight at auditions held in Northern California.

In other words, don't expect to see a Spanish-language Carrie Underwood album anytime soon.

17. Go back to school and brush up on your American history. Puerto Ricans are natural-born US citizens, and have been since President Wilson signed the Jones-Shafroth Act of Congress in 1916. Repeat: Puerto Ricans are born US citizens.

19. I am always amazed at the lack of knowledge displayed by the average inhabitant of the United States. They show no more knowledge of history than they do geography. I had not heard of "Objetivo Fama." but it makes sense to me. Why would you be interested in a show which has had, to my memory, only featured one hispanic singer, Gloria Estefan? With all the lousy music styles and musicians they've featured, you'd think they could leave their comfort zone. Which doesn't stop me from watching the auditions. It's the same fascination which makes people stare at car wrecks. At least the people who demonstrate their lousy singing have chosen to be there.

20. I respect everyone opinion but OMG you people are remedial! Puerto Rico is part of the U.S it’s a common wealth and yes they will die for their country the USA and they are proud. If you don’t have a chance to experience others culture you are depriving yourself. If you choose to become part of a one set mind frame go right ahead. I’m going to enjoy life the life of and their culture! Puerto Rico is beautiful. And Puerto Rican’s are NOT immigrants. However, we are ALL immigrants unless you are Native Indian. We are all from somewhere else and we should embrace that. That’s what makes us the melting pot of the world! Quit hating or start a village of your own with the rest of the cancer of this society somewhere in North Dakota.

NYCGIRL, Strictly speaking, Native Americans are immigrants also. Humans did not evolve in the Americas but came from Asia. That being said, they are the closest to original inhabitants that we have here.

24. Puerto Rico already has their own version of American Idol - it's called "Objectivo Fama". Besides, English isn't Puerto Rican's first language - there probably weren't alot of people who felt confident enough to sing in English to audition.

This must be why we have had 5 Miss Universe winners, hot sex symbols (Ricky Martin, Carlos Ponce, Roselyn Sanchez) and extremely talented actors and actresses (Rita Moreno, Jimmy Smits, Benicio del Toro, Raul Julia RIP).

It's ok, though. Patricia R must be hating because her Anglo husband dumped her fat ass for a hot Puerto Rican chica. Dont' worry, I'll take good care of him for you.
