Country Loser Bitter About Leaving Sugarland

File this under sour grapes: A chick who left the country band Sugarland three years ago wants her cut of the profits ... now that their latest album sits atop the Billboard charts.
Click to read the documents!
Kristen Hall wants $1.5 mil from her ex-bandmates Jennifer Nettles and Kristian Bush. She claims in a lawsuit they haven't paid out her share of "agreement" to share the loot. The band with Hall in it had a multi-platinum album together, but Kristen hasn't done so well on her own. Her bandmates, meanwhile, have continued to hit it huge -- their latest album "Love on the Inside," is no. 1 on the Billboard charts.

Sugarland's lawyer didn't have any comment.

46. I am from the city of Sugar Land, TX (yes... google it.. we are real) and Kristen Bush was raised here. That is why they named the band SugarLand. This crazy sore loser needs to get her facts straight cause it looks bad to lie in court and to God.

47. Jennifer & Kristian re-recorded the first album, after Kristen left, and it was rereleased. If memory serves, she left because she didn't want to be a part of them anymore, because they were getting to be too big, and she didn't want to tour. Or something along those lines.

For everyone talking about the weight issue, Jennifer was no tiny woman when they came out. She has lost a lot of weight over the past two years.

Jennifer & Kristian have undeniable chemistry on stage.I didn't see it with Kristen.

Now, if she wrote some of the songs, then by all means, she is owed money on those songs alone.
But I seriously doubt that she had her hand in any of their last two albums.

48. People just the time to google Sugarland's history.

Kristen Hall is an awesome songwriter. Before Sugarland she was successful in her solo career with many CDs. Sure, not as successful as a mainstream artist, but she wasn't writing mainstream pop or country.

Kristen began writing country pop songs and approached Kristan, her good friend, to start a band. The held auditions and hired Jennifer Nettles (who up until that time had been singing in quite a different style. google her too).

Kristen wrote nearly all of the songs on the first album.

Those are the facts.

If you read between some of the lines in the press, it is obvious that the country music industry wanted a duo -- not a trio, and especially not a gay member. Yes, Kristen is openly gay. As for Jennifer and Kristan, I know they are/were both married but I can't say if they if they have "switched teams" but I doubt it.

Kristen created Sugarland
Kristen hired Kristan and Jennifer
Kristen wrote the hit songs
Kristen got pushed out

Kristen deserves all that is fair

49. Why bother calling them a duo, she sings, he acts like he's singing and playing guitar
Granted Kristen wrote most of the songs on their first album which was a huge success and she should (if she didnt get anything from it) get a huge chunk from that album. And she did leave because of her image (at least that was the one thing she mentioned in an article when she was leaving).

50. # 46 got it right Kristen put the qwhole act together and wrote most if not all the songs. That's a fact. The question comes why did she leave the band. she released the statement that she was happier writing and didn't want the headache of touring and being in a hugely successful band. Qshe wanted the song writing money and credit but not the rest of the touring mess.

Now her story seems to have changed. I wonder what really happened.

the original fact remain true, Kristen made, developed, wrote for SL and she hired the other 2.

51. Wow! People are really unbelievable.
If you have never met Sugarland then you couldn't possibly know how kind, generous and grateful they are. If by "gay" you mean they have gentle spirits, then yes they are. They are two of the most compassionate and caring people in the entertainment industry that you will ever encounter. Not to mention two of the hardest working. They toured and performed something like 300 + days last year I read. That is why they deserve ALL of the money they are making. Congrats Kristen for coming up with a great idea, and for seeing it through to fruition. Too bad if you were too lazy to do the actual hard work of touring, and/or lose the weight that would have made you feel more comfortable with your image (if that is why you left). It woud be lovey to sit here and speculate as to why she left, but truly the three of them and their lawyers are the only ones that know. On another site they say it was an "unwritten agreement" that she is pursuing. Hmmm, smart business people with their heads on straight always walk away from a briliant "invention" that stands to make millions of dollars and don't get it in writing. Not to say Kristen isn't a brilliant songwriter, but clearly she is not a good deal maker.

As far as her being the reason Sugarland has it made it so far...They have had more success on the charts without Kristen(#1 in the country), Jennifer won single and song of the year for a song she wrote by herself!, and their second album which Kristen had NOTHING to do with just leaped back up the charts (the 1st one that she was involved in didn't do that). So, if you believe that to be true, do some research, and you will find that all of the success that Sugarland has enjoyed has been because of Jennifer and Kristian's blood, sweat and tears and their love for their fans.

If your goal is to spew venom at successful people than enjoy yourself. If it is to speak the truth, than find it first. If you are a true fan of Jennifer and Kristian like I am then know that they work hard to make us happy. Lastly, if you have homophobic tendencies, regardless of Jennifer and Kristian's sexuality get some help and learn to love all people because we all deserve the same respect regardless of who we love.

Lastly, I get that I am stooping to a level that I don't necessarily feel comfortable with when writing this. But, Jennifer and Kristian have been very kind to me on a number of occasions and I couldn't sit back and allow this to continue without saying something. This post is for them.

52. I think Sugarland is better without Kristen. I've seen them 3 times...the first time with Kristen. When I saw them with Kristen, she was totally uninvolved. She just stood there and played her guitar and did backup vocals. She didn't interact at all with Jennifer or Kristian. She should be paid what she's owed up until the time she quit...after that, she doesn't deserve a dime IMO. She must be broke and needs money. She has stated herself that she quit to concentrate on writing...must not be paying too well right now. Sour grapes on her part.

53. Kristen is mad because she messed up by leaving. As far as her rights to the name, Jennifer and Kris have become successful and would have done so no matter what name was on their label. Kristen may be entitled to profits from the earlier releases when she still contributed to the trio, but the duo has done their own thing without her and taken Sugarland to no. 1, Kristen should not expect to profit from something she had no part of.
