Edwards Admits Affair, Says Enquirer Was Right

He's a liar! Former Presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted to lying about having an extramarital affair with a former staffer.

In an interview with ABC's "Nightline" that airs tonight, Edwards admits he had a sexual affair with 44-year-old Rielle Hunter, but claims he did not love her.

Edwards does say, however, that he knows he is not the baby daddy of Hunter's little girl based on the "timing" of the kid's birth in February of this year. He claims the tryst ended too soon for him to be the dad, although he has not taken a paternity test.

And the story gets better ...

Hunter met Edwards at a bar in 2006. After their meeting, his campaign paid her $114,000 to create campaign spots, even though she was fairly unqualified to do so. According to Edwards, he made sure to tell Hunter that his wife's cancer was in remission before they hooked up. How big of him.

The National Enquirer first broke the story of the alleged affair last October. At that time, Edwards hooted and hollered that the story was "false," adding "It's completely untrue, it's ridiculous." He even repeated that denial two weeks ago after the Enquirer updated their story reporting that Edwards and Hunter met up at a Bev Hills hotel. He admits in the interview the story was right.

And get this, Edwards says he never paid Hunter to keep her mouth shut, but admitted it was possible that some of his friends did without telling him.

46. Come on guys - I'm sure most of you who have commente on John Edwards affair have something in your own backyard. Remember, he who is without sin cast the first stone. He is human and it's between Edwards and his God, and of course his wife. I think we should support both of them.

You don't know what goes on in the bedroom of any couple, especially if one is seriously ill. He is HUMAN, have you not sinned? Most of the ones throwing stones at Edwards probably have had affairs. Let's support both of them and keep them in our prayers.

48. Right now, somewhere, BIll Clinton is laughing, going "At least I knew enough to pull out."

49. I agree #38. What bothers me, though, is the hypocrisy that TMZ and the mainstream liberal media have displayed on not reporting anything about John's affair. He would have been scorched had he been republican. I do feel bad for Elizabeth; what a humiliation to have to endure.

50. Baby's mama...not baby mama. That's Tina Fey's wrong version.

51. I am so weary of hearing about so many people with no morals. Isn't there anyone out there who still believes that sexual intimacy is reserved--according to God--for a husband and wife ONLY?

52. ...and of course, he didn't inhale! I feel sorry for his wife who is dying of cancer...men can be so heartless :(

53. How sad for his wife to have to go through this while she is dying. I don't care much for the image that the Edward's have given themselves in the public eye...but his wife is still his wife and she's dying.

Oh..and as a republican, I'd never say "those cheating democrate jerks" or anything of the sort....morals or morals and they have no party lines..

Of course, who do I see saying negative things and attacking people here?

Oh..the liberals....hypocrits. through and through. Funny how a dem can get busted for something and repub's get attacked....LMAO. IGNORANCE.

54. "And we all know that Obama blackmailed Edwards with knowledge of the affair to get his endorsement over Clinton."

How do we know this? How is Edwards affair tied to/blamed on Obama??? Get off the goofy juice 46.

56. We wouldn't be having this discussion if her were black. Another double standard. We must uphold our beautiful caucasian values.

57. The "He's only human" lame excuse that people constantly use is old! It doesn't say much for a person who cheats on his wife when she is suffering from cancer. Whatever happened to loyalty and integrity....I'm sorry but I think we don't give enough credit to character in people.

58. Of course the child is his. Why else would he have been visiting her with the baby in the hotel ? The story is going to get more sordid.

Kudos to the National Enquirer for breaking the story.

59. If the child isn't his, why would he travel to Los Angeles and visit with the newborn and mother? I know he already had meetings setup here, but what a coincidence huh. Lets remember his wife has cancer again. Cancer is often a result of stress and a lack of forgiveness. She had it a few years ago and went into remission, now it's returned. John is self serving. He's not for the blue collar demographic. He's made millions as an attorney working for big corporations in large lawsuits, often resulting in the little guy getting monetarily hosed. He's an egocentric who indulges in whatever floats his boat regardless of who it hurts. Money, power, women or whatever you got. He wants to be JFK, just like Clinton did. You can say, "Big deal, he's human", but he's running for public office. Some morality and integrity would be nice. That's the making of a true leader. The last true leader this country has had was Ronald Reagan. Long gone are those days.

60. Not surprising that the Enquirer had it right - they often break true stories before they're widely known. I became convinced during the OJ trial...
