"Egocentric" Edwards: I Was "99% Honest"

John Edwards just issued the following statement about his admitted sexual affair:

"In 2006, I made a serious error in judgment and conducted myself in a way that was disloyal to my family and to my core beliefs. I recognized my mistake and I told my wife that I had a liaison with another woman, and I asked for her forgiveness. Although I was honest in every painful detail with my family, I did not tell the public. When a supermarket tabloid told a version of the story, I used the fact that the story contained many falsities to deny it. But being 99% honest is no longer enough."

And he goes on ...

"I was and am ashamed of my conduct and choices, and I had hoped that it would never become public. With my family, I took responsibility for my actions in 2006 and today I take full responsibility publicly. But that misconduct took place for a short period in 2006. It ended then. I am and have been willing to take any test necessary to establish the fact that I am not the father of any baby, and I am truly hopeful that a test will be done so this fact can be definitively established. I only know that the apparent father has said publicly that he is the father of the baby. I also have not been engaged in any activity of any description that requested, agreed to or supported payments of any kind to the woman or to the apparent father of the baby.

It is inadequate to say to the people who believed in me that I am sorry, as it is inadequate to say to the people who love me that I am sorry. In the course of several campaigns, I started to believe that I was special and became increasingly egocentric and narcissistic. If you want to beat me up - feel free. You cannot beat me up more than I have already beaten up myself. I have been stripped bare and will now work with everything I have to help my family and others who need my help.

I have given a complete interview on this matter and having done so, will have nothing more to say."

166. Too bad he didn't win the nomination and the story came out 2 days before the election. That would have been ULTRA cool.

167. For John: All I have to say is, YOU JERK! WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE?! No spouse or girlfriend and boyfriend deserves to be cheated on! You knew what you were doing and you knew it was wrong!!!!!!! Plus it was violating you marriage vows and the trust of everyone around you but you still did it! You did it while your wife was fighting for her life and fighting to get well, didn't your vows state; In Sickness and In Health?! I HATE CHEATERS!

169. What part of "If his own wife can not trust him, you know we can't." do people not understand. Just like Obama he says what he thinks the people around him at the time want to hear. He has no honor except to himself. He serves himself, he thinks he knows what is best for all of us other morons in the world. Just like Obama , he thinks he has to tell us what temp to keep our homes, what to drive, what light bulb to use, that we should not own a gunb because we might hurt ourselves (not the criminals), that we who work hard should give to the ones who don't. etc.... Let's take our country back and vote morons like these out of office for our childrnes and grandchildrens sake.

Sure this is his private life but this type of deciion making carries over into these politians professional lifes ! To make matters worse, his wife is dying of cancer, his children have to be a part of this whole thing, but she forgives the @#@hole !...Once that paternity test comes back positive, that this child is his, he will be officaly done. !!

171. I'm a Democrat who has never liked John Edwards. Okay, maybe I liked him for five minutes. He says that this happened b/c he began to think he was special and became ego-centered and narcissistic. Well, gee John, that was OBVIOUS. "On paper," I don't have any major problems with the man, but he comes off so slick, so full of himself, and I have never trusted him.

If Edwards was SO beyond repulsed by Bill Clinton, why did he turn around and do the same thing -- and then some!

172. Hey Johnny! Were you thinking of your cancer stricken wife while you were bonking the bimbo?

Posted at 2:28PM on Aug 9th 2008 by Purty boy

173. Stress is one of the worst thing for cancer patients. Forget the moral issue for a moment. Did John Edwards ever think what the revelation of his exploits could do to his wife fighting for her life? And to their children? What a sleaze.

175. Have no sympathy for him. He asked for it. Feel sorry for his family for having to be humiliated by his actions. I don't like to see news like this printed BUT married people and people in a committed relationship should not be screwing around.

176. Edwards is clearly slim and not an honest person. The political world is better off without him as he has proved to the american people he is not an honest person, and could not have been trusted to handle the affairs of the american people in a honest manner. I feel sorry for his wife, and for her condition. That just goes further to his lack of character knowing her possible condition at the time he was playing around. I would almost bet this is not the first time he has done this type of thing. Mrs. Edwards has a perfect right to forgive him and can be respected for that as that is her personal life and her marriage. But she does not in my opinion deserve any respect for continuing to support him in running for the highest office in our land after learning of his dishonest behavior. She would have known at that time if he would betray her he would be capable of betraying the american people. She was at that time a partner in his dishonesty in scamming the american people. I do however, feel sorry for her and what he is putting her and her children through especially at this difficult time in her life. Much luck is sent out to her but he may need to have to face the consquences of his behavior. I would imagine he still has not been 100% honest given his statement. 99% honest give me a break.

177. What an Jerk. Worst part is he ruined the outcome of the election. He would have given away the democratic chance because the affsir would have come out. People wasted votes on him that could have gone to Hillary or Obama and made the election process a lot easier on everyone. I use to think he was a pretty good guy, I dont care that he cheated but that he messed up the political process is bad. He should have never ran knowing that he did that.

178. Larry, you are so out of touch, I could care less if George W screwed an entire brothel as long as he didnt run the country in the ground like he has. I dont care who is screwing who, but when gas is $4.30 a gallon and the president is mentally brain dead, that I have a problem with. Ever hear of Gingrich, Giuliani, or McCain, I could go on and on about the republican affairs but you wouldnt understand Larry, you are too narrow minded, but what would I expect from a George W suppoter.....

179. The one thing that amazes me is this....didn't he realize that eventually all of this would come out? How on earth could he run for President and know that this skeleton was in his closet? Does he think he is so untouchable that this information would never be publicized? To think of all of his staff and supporters, of all of the campaign contributions, the time and energy....and him knowing that this would eventually come out? It really amazes me. I have trouble walking down the street if I told a small white lie to a friend that day. People amaze me.

180. Nice Talk.

Clearly you're disconnected from reality. It sounds like you just regurgitated the op-ed portion of The New York Times. Do you understand the concept of Economics? Oh wait, obviously you don't. The evil Republicans control the gas prices, don't they? George Bush has actually done a GREAT job leading this country. But you're dealing with an extremely liberal tilted media that can only pound him just because he's a Republican and doesn't fit their ultra liberal views. Then morons like you just keep eating the garbage they put out there as reality. Use your brain and try not to live your life as such a fool.
