Who is the Man -- Dead at 65

Musician Isaac Hayes -- who wrote the theme song for "Shaft" -- died this afternoon in a Memphis hospital.

According to WMC, a Shelby County sheriff's deputy responded to call from Hayes' wife after she found him on the floor near a treadmill inside their home.

Hayes was taken to Baptist East Hospital in Memphis, and was pronounced dead at 2:08 PM. Cops are investigating, but do not believe foul play was a factor.

91. I know all of us will miss Isaac Hayes. I can recall seeing his amzing profromances at Watts stack in L.A. itwas really something to see. there are just no word that can express how the hrearts of the music world aces for Bernie Mac's family he also captured the hearts millions we feel that we have lost one of our own.

93. Honestly who cares?? Another brain-dead zombie bites the dust. I respect the stuff he did at Stax -- "Hold on I'm comin'" is one of my favorite songs ever, but in the end he proved himself to be nothing but an all-day sucker. The theme from 'Shaft' is little more than a pitiful imitation of Curtis Mayfield's theme from Superfly, with none of the insight or humanity. I always thought he was kind of crass, but I lost all respect for him after the South Park incident, which truly showed what kind of a 'man' he was. He can burn in hell for all I care. Another fool who lowered the level of general discourse.

97. If Carey Hart's brother was so famous, how come nobody on this forum knows his name? I don't think this one counts as #1 on the 3 deaths that will occur. Btw his name was Anthony. Anyway, RIP

98. I grew up on the music of "Black Moses" Issac Hayes and this just breaks my heart. Shaft is by far the best movie soundtrack of all time. His albums "Hot Buttered Soul", "The Issac Hayes Movement". "To Be Continued", "Black Moses", "Joy", "Chocolate Chip", "Juicy Fruit", "A Man and A Woman" (with Dionne Warwick), and "Royal Rappin" (with Millie Jackson) are classics. Along with songwriting partner David Porter, Issac Hayes created endless soul classics during their tenure at Stax Records in the 60's. And even though they were friendly rivals in the 70's, Issac Hayes even recorded the duet "Dark and Lovely" with the late Barry White back in '91.

For all you ignorant people who feel it necessary to slam Issac Hayes for his Scientology beliefs, you can go straight to hell. I may not believe in Scientology and I know this is tmz.com, but try to show some class and respect Issac Hayes for his musical legacy and not his personal beliefs.

99. I was a teenager when "Shaft" was released--listened to that album constantly one summer in the late 60's and still love it.
Mr. Hayes will be missed, may he rest in peace

102. In response to the person who posted comment #88 "Shaft is little more than a pitiful imitation of Curtis Mayfield's theme from Superfly...", apparently you know nothing about Issac Hayes outside of "South Park". The "Shaft" soundtrack came out nearly two years before "Superfly".

The comment you made about Issac Hayes being a brain dead zombie was just rude and ignorant. Typical of someone who's a lonely, self-centered loser. Hope you never lose somone who's close to you.
