R.I.P.
Dave Matthews Band Member Dead

TMZ has learned LeRoi Moore, the sax player in the Dave Matthews Band, has died. He was 46.

Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident June 30 outside Charlottesville. He had a punctured lung and broken ribs. Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications.

Moore died in Los Angeles this afternoon, after taking a turn for the worse.

We're also told the band will perform tonight as scheduled at the Staples Center in L.A.

UPDATE: A rep for the Band just gave TMZ the following statement:

"LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program."

166. To Maria. I don't think that Dave and the band were being disrespectful. Music was LeRoi's passion and I believe that is the way he would like to be remembered. Who are you to say what is and is not disrespectful?

167. 164- this is a post about leroi, not you. No one cares to hear how many times you have seen the band. Bragging about it stopped being cool a long time ago. Show some respect and stop talking about yourself.

168. LeRoi's sax playing is what initially drew me to this band....he played a crucial role in this bands musical arrangements....is it possible for them to release new material without him? It seems impossible...Oooooooooo his death is such very sad news. His band mates must be so devastated !!! I'm sorry for you all Dave,Carter, Boyd,Stephan, Tim , Butch, crew , friends and family!
Listening to Live at Piedmont Park and LeRoi was crazy "on" during this...The Dreaming Tree is bringing me to tears. Bless you LeRoi...words can't even describe what we your humble fans are feeling...you are surely missed ! "Stay or Leave I want you not to go ,but you did"

170. First, it is not a sign of disrespect to play on. Do we pause a war every time a solider is killed in combat? This man dedicated a large portion of his life to building this band into what it is today, how is it disrespectful to continue on with his legacy? It's a tribute if anything. Second, I'm sure the entire band will be mourning this loss for a long time but the sad truth is death is a part of life and the best way to honor someone who has passed is to keep their memory alive. And lastly, for those who believe 'he out lived the band' that is absurd. They are playing at FULL CAPACITY venues every time they hit that stage. When did generating millions of dollars in ticket sales become critera of a 'has been'?

171. To all of you who have made rude comments, GROW UP!!! Obviously you do not know how band member s that have passed would want the band to carry on and not dwell on their death. I, being a former band member(i'm retired now) none of our member s would want us to stop the show, they would always want the show to go on!! That is their life and they respect that and DMB is doing what Leroi would have done had it been another band member.. Carry on DMB you rock.

172. To post #7. In a way I don't think that is disrespectful because I'm sure LeRoi would have wanted them to continue on with the tour, esp. him being a founder of the band and that it was something he loved.

173. I messed up my comment,,, it isn't disrespectful because it is all about the music.. they are musicians

174. Wow. A lot of incredibly ignorant remarks on here.

R.I.P. Leroi. You will always be remembered. My prayers and love go out to his family, friends, and fans.

Jeff Coffin is an incredibly talented man and did an excellent job this tour of filling in for Leroi, when he first got injured on the atv. They were pretty big shoes to fill, but he did it well.

The fans would have understood if they had not played, but I think the fact that they did, and dedicated to Leroi, playing his favorite songs showed tremendous strength, love and vulnerability. It was a sad time for everyone. Light & Love.

175. Show some respect for the deceased and for those who have survived him. Everyone has family; he was someone's son, brother, friend, etc. I have taken my son to see the DMB since he was 14 (our first road trip to WPB, FL together). What an amazing talent the DMB is - together as a group and just as amazing when they do their solo parts. When you watch them, you can tell they truly enjoy each other and their "jobs". It's not just for the glory or the money. I would think that the band new him best and would have done what they thought was best and also a way of honoring him. Think for a moment how hard it must have been for the band to take the stage that night. Folks grieve differently and I probably would have done the same thing. I lost my son when he was 13 days old and I am sure people thought I was doing things that were not respectfully but I did what I had to do to survive the pain, to continue to raise our 2-yr old son and deal with my husband's grief. That same 2-yr old is now 19 and the best person I have ever met. What I am trying to say is let him rest and stop all the negativity. Life must go on for the living!
