R.I.P.
Dave Matthews Band Member Dead

TMZ has learned LeRoi Moore, the sax player in the Dave Matthews Band, has died. He was 46.

Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident June 30 outside Charlottesville. He had a punctured lung and broken ribs. Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications.

Moore died in Los Angeles this afternoon, after taking a turn for the worse.

We're also told the band will perform tonight as scheduled at the Staples Center in L.A.

UPDATE: A rep for the Band just gave TMZ the following statement:

"LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program."

16. I'm in shock. I've seen the band 34 times, and LeRoi always amazed me. No one will ever be able to replace him. I'm truly saddened by this news. God Bless LeRoi and his family.

17. This is a really sad day for DMB and the community that has been built around the band. I know a lot of people that have spent the last decade or so following this band and archiving every note played, countless shows attended. It's sad that the DMB as we all know it is gone. Roi will be missed.

some moments that stick out for me:

his flute solo on #41 on Listener Supported
the way he would intertwine random songs and hooks into his solos.
the way that he never minded hanging in the shadows and supporting the band
Jimi Thing solo, 6/29/03
The way that, even though he played for a pop/rock band, he never left his jazz roots.
stage left. fist.

Thoughts and prayers from the DMBML crew, though most of us have gone elsewhere. The communities at ants, TDC, ufck, and warehouse boards are thinking about ya big guy.

18. Of course the band plays on. They will dedicate tonights show to their lost brother. That is the way musicians do it. It is all about the music. Get a grip people.

19. this is a sad time for the band and their fans
we need to not be judgmental of the means they use to cope with this loss
they will honor Leroi and his memory in the way that works for them

21. This is so sad...the band will never be the same. And I think LeRoi would have wanted them to play tonight. I don't think that's any disrespect to him at all. Myself and all of Charlottesville are keeping his family in our prayers.
