R.I.P.
Dave Matthews Band Member Dead

TMZ has learned LeRoi Moore, the sax player in the Dave Matthews Band, has died. He was 46.

Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident June 30 outside Charlottesville. He had a punctured lung and broken ribs. Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications.

Moore died in Los Angeles this afternoon, after taking a turn for the worse.

We're also told the band will perform tonight as scheduled at the Staples Center in L.A.

UPDATE: A rep for the Band just gave TMZ the following statement:

"LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program."

31. He was an amazing person and musician! This sucks! If there is a GOD, why do you take the talented and leave the non-talented, over-hyped stars to continue ruining the talent landscape? R.I.P LeRoi Moore!

32. I am in SHOCK!!!! I didn't think it was that serious. The last time I saw him play was just before his accident in STL and he was GREAT! I think ROI would want them to soldier on & I agree with Nate, that's all they know how to do. May the big guy upstairs take care you. My thoughts and prayers are with Roi's family, friends and all of DMB.

34. as a huge fan I know they are playing tonite in his honor. And the replacement isn't a replacement he has been playing with the band on and off for 2 years right alongside of leroi....I saw them on august 6 and Leroi wasn't there but the other very talented musician was. If anyone is being disrespectful it is the people putting nasty things on here.

35. truly a sad loss...DMB is one of the most talented group of guys...as for the people who are mad about them playing tonight...they must not know any musicians..because, any musician would tell you the show must go on...thats what he would want...they will play their hearts out and leave it on the stage...im glad they are playing....R.I.P. Leroi

37. Didn't the band lose another member several years ago? I may be thinking of something else. Anyway, RIP and the band and his family are in my prayers.

38. Hey Ric- get your facts straight- bus driver was found not guilty of dumping and HOW DARE you bring something like that up at a time like this - you are very disrespectful- The Dave Matthews Band is a group of guys that care deeply about their fans, their music and this world! LeRoi will be missed!

39. this one goes to ric... first off shut the f*** up and show some respect. the last time i checked a roadie doesnt have the ability carry out LeRois parts and after seeing them in July i think the member they had from another band did a superb job at playing Lerois part. And i dont think dave canceling the show for thousands of die hard dave fans would bring LeRoi back. The thing to do and the thing he would want would be for his legacy to be carried out and i think having a show in his memorial tonight would be a very respectful thing, not just leave their fans hanging during this crazy event. And second Dave was not the one who dumped the waste on the people, it was the bus driver, and his ass got fired. Learn your facts! support dmb

40. We cannot believe this sad news. We are completely beside ourselves. We are two of those people who have been following them for the past decade or so. The band will NEVER be the same and you will forever be in our hearts and prayers. We love you LeRoi and we were so glad to have met you when we did:) All our love, Hel and Shan

41. He had so much potential and could have done so much more (and lived so much longer) were it not for his addictions. But he had so many enablers around him he never even had a real shot at getting clean.

44. I'm sure the band is broken hearted as well are. They chose to go on with the show and more than likely will dedicate it to Leroi. Celebrate his 46 great years on earth and not dwell on the day he died. No doubt Dave will wrie a song about his friend, I can't wait!! RIP Leroi, and god bless your family and friends.
