R.I.P.
Dave Matthews Band Member Dead

TMZ has learned LeRoi Moore, the sax player in the Dave Matthews Band, has died. He was 46.

Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident June 30 outside Charlottesville. He had a punctured lung and broken ribs. Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications.

Moore died in Los Angeles this afternoon, after taking a turn for the worse.

We're also told the band will perform tonight as scheduled at the Staples Center in L.A.

UPDATE: A rep for the Band just gave TMZ the following statement:

"LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program."

"Mr. Leroi Moore on the saxophone!"

80. LeRoi was part of 32 of the 35 shows I have been honored to attend, and that's 32 memories of his wonderful talent, unique presence, and enjoyment as he held the right side of the stage together for 3 hrs each night... I will never forget his incredible talent, and all of us for whom DMB's music has been such an important part of our lives will never forget his contribution to our lives through that... RIP LeRoi - my thoughts and prayers are with your family, and your memory will remain in 32 very special pieces of my heart forever...

81. I wish I was in LA and the fans are lucky to share such an intimate moment. Hugs to all and bless LeRoi and his family. This is heartbreaking.

#8 You are so wrong. Playing to night is the best way to honor him. I was at Bob Weir's show the night Jerry died and to date it is one of the most important shows in my life. Being able to be around thousands that share your grief and having the support their for the band is precious.

Amazing what a minute can do.

82. This is a sad day for all Dave fans...he was amazing just as all of the band members are. And to the selfish people who post on here with bs like Kelli, Maria and Ric - you are disrespectful to life - no one cares who is first and if you are a true fan, you know this is how LeRoi would have wanted it (celebrating his life) - tonight is a show that will be dedicated to him and all nights to follow this year. Sad that people have to go posting bs thinking about no one but themselves.

To all Dave fans - a moment of silence for a truly amazing sax player. If you never had the opportunity to see him play live, you truly missed out. RIP LEROI, you will be missed.

83. this is some very very sad news. i've lost count of the number of times i've seen dave in concert, but everytime i looked forward to hearing what amazing jam leroi would pull out and mesmerize us with. he was never as flashy like dave, boyd, stefan, or carter, but he knew how to hit just the perfect note at the perfect time, and express such an immense range of emotion with his sax. i'm supposed to go to the concert in san diego on friday, if the band decides to soldier on past tonight, its going to be weird seeing them play without leroi.

I have no doubt leroi is entertaining everyone up above with his amazing music

84. This is a terrible tragedy. I just saw DMB couple weeks ago in VA Beach.... Dave said LeRoi was going to be fine. What a terrible loss this is for the band, and the fans. No one will every be able to bring to DMB what LeRoi has. Will keep his family and the band in my thoughts and prayers. And to those of you who are hating on the Band for continuing to play tonights show... How pathetic are you to criticize? There is nothing you can do for the first 24 hours after a person passes away. And i'm sure LeRoi would have wanted them to play tonight. He's in a better place, with all the great musicians who have passed before him.

85. My sympathies to LeRoi's family, DMB and Crew. I am in shock. I saw DMB last week and LeRoi was definitely missed. There are no words.

86. he was replaced right fter the accident....the dmb fans are not like most concert fans, chances are good people came from all over the country and have spent a thouand dollars or more on airfare, hotels, etc.......I am sure the fans appreciated being there and I would bet the band appreciated even more having a chance to get lost in the music for a few hours and carry on.....I would bet the band never even considered backing out, the next couple of shows, likely postponed, but the music they played without him this summer was very good, and the band will carry on, but never be the same.....

the day jerry died, Bob Weir played a show in hampton beach, NH and everyone in attendance and the band member himself worked through it in the most fitting way to honor a longtime partner and supplier of unlimited entertainment...
