R.I.P.
Dave Matthews Band Member Dead

TMZ has learned LeRoi Moore, the sax player in the Dave Matthews Band, has died. He was 46.

Moore was seriously injured in an ATV accident June 30 outside Charlottesville. He had a punctured lung and broken ribs. Moore went back into the hospital last month due to complications.

Moore died in Los Angeles this afternoon, after taking a turn for the worse.

We're also told the band will perform tonight as scheduled at the Staples Center in L.A.

UPDATE: A rep for the Band just gave TMZ the following statement:

"LeRoi Moore, saxophonist and founding member of Dave Matthews Band, died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, August 19, 2008, at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles from sudden complications stemming from his June ATV accident on his farm near Charlottesville, Virginia. Moore had recently returned to his Los Angeles home to begin an intensive physical rehabilitation program."

91. I'm so sad and shocked that such an amazing talent was taken so young. My thoughts go out to his family and friends. Rip LeRoi, thank you so much for many years of amazing music and memories. The DMB just won't be the same without you.

92. I am deeply saddened this evening. There's not much to say but that my heart is very heavy. Having loved the Dave Matthews Band for the past 13, my heart is broken imagining what the members, family and fans of this band are going through. My heart and soul goes out to them as I am deeply devastated by this. I know that the Dave Matthews Band will never be the same after this great loss. I love you LeRoi and I know that your music will always live on in my heart.

94. Too many shows to count over the last 15 years and I'm proud that the band is honoring LeRoi by playing tonight. Somewhere, Roi's playing his "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" solo in LIOG and I know he's feeling the love & sorrow we share with his loss. My heart goes out to his family, both off-stage and on, and I know he will be sorely missed. LeRoi's music is his legacy.

96. I stumbled on this site after I heard the news. First, the girl who said oh I posted first should be hit by a bus. Someone just died you j*rkoff. Second, Jeff Coffin is one of the most respected horn players in the buisness and has been touring with the band since Roi's accident. It's not like they picked some dude up off the street in L.A. to play the show tonight. Thirdly, for the guy who said 150,000 people die everyday. It is sad how we can value one life more than another but for someone like me who has been to 54 shows and loves every band member like family can mourn. So, while your point is clear, take your negativity elsewhere and realize this is a blog to mourn or celebrate Roi. You will be dearly missed Roi. Life is short but sweet for certain.

97. Do you idiots really think the band would disrespect him?? I'm sure they did what they thought he would want them to do. RIP, Leroi. You will be sorely missed.

98. After 15 years and 36 shows I feel like I've lost a member of my family. I didn't know him personally but I feel like they're all my brothers. Thier music has been with me constantly, usually daily for almost half of my life. I don't want to believe its true. Im shocked and deeply saddened by the loss of our LeRoi. We should all take a moment to pray for LeRoi, the band and thier families. And pray for the fans too. We've been dealt the tragic loss of a terribly gifted musician, but more importantly we've lost a gentle, sweet, humble, man, who posesed a beautiful warm heart and soul. Rest in Peace, Roi. You've left a void that cannot be filled. You will be terribly missed.

99. Leroy should have not been allowed to rehab at home. He already almost died as a result of it before!!!!!!!!!!
Whoever his Doc was in L.A. should be investigated for malpractice

100. Fortunately in America everybody has the freedom of speech. Because of that everybody has the right to be heard. You may agree or disagree, but you have the right to say it. LeRoi was an extraordinarily talented musician. I feel fortunate enough to have the opportunity to hear him play. As a musician, I know that he would have wanted the show to go on - as would I. I had the privilege of running into Dave and Tim in front of my hotel in Amsterdam when they played the Paradiso at 3:15 AM and them being courteous enough to take a picture with me. I have never met a more humble, down to earth, and class act as Dave and Tim. I can only imagine the pain they feel. As a musician (not a great one), I would have wanted the show to go on and cherish the memory of my friend. There is no question that LeRoi Moore would have been proud.

May you RIP LeRoi - thank you for the music. You, Dave, and the band changed so many people's lives.

104. He should have stayed in VA to rehab a bad lung, with all the air quality issues in LA. He will be missed and someone should be slaped for this bad decision.

105. I just saw the DMB last week in concert. It was a good show. Life is short. We none know why things happen.
Word is from Janet Carlton (ET reporter) ,he WAS advised by his docs not to go to CA, but he wanted to go and went and now he is dead.
