DMB Concert: "LeRoi Gave His Ghost Up Today"

With his voice trembling with emotion, Dave Matthews broke the heartbreaking news to a packed Staples Center crowd in L.A. last night -- that his close friend and sax player, LeRoi Moore, had died.

Just hours after he learned about Moore's passing, Dave told the fans, "it's always easier to leave than be left." Moore died Tuesday from complications stemming from an ATV accident in June, in which he punctured a lung and broke several ribs.

17. why would you knock him and label him irresponsible???
it was a heartfelt quote completely appropriate for the moment.

this isn't for the suicide attempters, it's a statement about mourning you insensitive losers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

18. I saw the band for the first time without LeRoi just a couple of weeks ago in Wisconsin, and there was definitely a different sound with Tim Reynolds doing a lot of fills. I was just getting used to him and Rayshawn complementing each other on stage.

RIP LeRoi. :-(

19. Ants marching, you are so right, DMB celebrates life, Dave's quote, basically is for Leroi Fans and Family, we are the one's left behind, sad, and devastated, suffering for the loss of someone we cared about, True DMB Fans feel a personal connection with the entire band. If morons commit suicide, (like #14 & #15 comment), because they interpret what Dave said the wrong way, then this world is better off from stupid idiots like that.

20. 14 AND 15. You're an idiot. You thought of that b/c of your line of work. Not all teens work in the psychiatric field. Get a clue.

22. Hey folks, in regards to 14 & 15, and idiot can work at a funny farm. They didn't say they're a doctor. They could be cleaning up drool for all we know.

some people are simple-minded goofs who think that everyone is as impressionable as they are.

23. I am completely crushed. I have been a Dave Matthewa Band fan for years, and I haven't missed a concert in the last 8 years. It was always a joy to see LeRoi Moore playing his sax up on stage. I will be going to the Staples Center tonight, but this will be a completely different experience from amy DMB concert I've been to. Rest in peace, Mr. Moore.

24. That's unfortunate. If anyone from DMB was going to die, why couldn't it have been Dave Matthews?

25. A brilliant musician.... Thoughts and prayers with the family. My next 23 shows will not be the same. We will always love you.

26. Well with one of the BIGGEST MEMBERS of the band now dead eveyone else will get LeRoi cut of all new music and have better negotiations on all copyright material from past efforts. Whoever plays SAX next will be offered "EXPOSURE" rather than a partners share(lions share) of the DMB gross income.

27. As a true DMB fan, LeRoi will be dearly missed. It is sad to hear people cheering in the background when he is talking, but like any other DMB show, it is so loud you cannot usually hear what he is saying. What a sad situation and my heart goes out to the band, his family and friends.

28. To ??? and lola............f off! You obviously know nothing about the Dave Matthews Band. For you to think that he's irresponsible for saying something so heartfelt and truly what he believes....shame on you both. Have you ever lost anyone close before? If so wasn't it easier to go than to stay? Anyway, LeRoi you will certainly be missed and my condolences go out to the entire Dave Matthews Band family.

29. This is a sad day for TRUE DMB fans! Dave Matthews is not a one man band. Together, they ALL make great music. LeRoi will truly be missed by real DMB fans. If you have never experienced a DMB concert, it's high tide you did! Dave and his fellow musicians are awesome. My condolences to LeRoi's family. RIP LeRoi.

30. Are you kidding me ? What kind of moron would take what Dave Matthews said as a quote or permission that suicide is ok? Understand that those words come from a true and peaceful place from one friend to another at a time of mourning- anyone missing the message is just an idiot!!! Shame on whoever encourages it by posting such nonsense. I do agree that folks could have shown a bit more tact and taken a break from all the foolishness of their excitement to help Dave. Fonzi, Cater, Boyd and freinds pay tribute to their fallen brother. My heart and prayers go out to the entire Dave Matthews Band and their families - Eat, Drink and Be Merry in your heaven Leroi - we will miss you!!!!
