Finally, A House John McCain Doesn't Own

Donald Trump is off the hook. Someone else has stepped up and is buying Ed McMahon's house.
Ed Mahon: Click to launch
Ed has been dogged by his L.A. mansion, which was sitting on the brink of foreclosure. Last week, Donald said he would help the man he admired by buying the property. Ed's realtor, Alex Davis, tells us Trump actually made a written offer but was outbid.

Ed's rep says the buyer surfaced last week, after Trump got all that publicity. We're told escrow opened yesterday but it's still not a done deal.

As for who's buying the house, the out-of-state buyer wants confidentiality. However, Ed's rep says it's not John McCain.

And we just got this statement from The Donald: "...The other buyer has signed a purchase agreement....subject to many contingencies including but not limited to a mortgage contingency. Mr. Trump clearly would not need a mortgage and would be capable of closing this transaction immediately. If the other buyer should be successful in this bid, Mr. Trump truly hopes that they do the right thing by Ed McMahon and not have this 85-year-old American icon removed from the property."

So here's the question -- If Donald really wants Ed to stay in the house, why didn't he just outbid the buyer?

16. "Taking a crappy loan" is not the only reason that someone's mortgage could be in jeapardy. There's illness, lost of employment, this crappy BUSH induced economy or whatever. And personally, I'd rather help any one of those people...even someone "who took a crappy loan", rather than this TRICK DADDY who let that SACK CHASER spend all of his money.
AND ED, take off that stupid neck brace, you look ridicoulus and you're not winning any sympathy points. @$$ hole!

17. well, Trump made an offer and someone bid higher. If Trump really offered for Ed to stay in the mansion and if the new buyer hasn't, then it's EM's problem, if he took the other offer. He had a choice. And if there are many contingencies, then all kinds of stuff can happen and this can fall through and Ed could still lose the house to foreclosure. In the situation he's in, the smart move would have been to take the 'sure thing' (trump's offer), even if it's lower. He brought it on himself. I don't see any reason to blame Trump. Ed was looking for more money and may end up losing - he gambled.

19. Why should the likes of Trump, give his money to people who live beyond their means, trying to keep up with the Jones'? It's not his fault, it's your own fault! Millionaires & Billionaires made their money themselves, just like you make your money. He doesn't owe the middle/lower class anything. Didn't you vote Bush into office? Hmm,....so the billions we've spent and continue to spend on a foreign country in war, could be better used in our country, in our own pockets don't you think. Why aren't you asking him to help pay your mortgage? It's your house, your mortgage, your problem! Get over yourselves!

22. I had understood that originally Donald (don't want to use his last name as he seems to sue people who invoke it) was going to buy the property and rent it back to McMahon. If ED couldn't pay his mortgage I don't see how he could pay rent. It sounds like a better plan to sell the big house and buy or rent a smaller place.

I don't get how someone can just piss their fortune away either. One can still live well while showing a little restraint

24. Too bad the chump change is not Trump change but the money is just in time for Last Call:

Last call for Ed to buy his final case of cold Budweiser and Last Call at Neiman's for that wife of his.

25. Where were Ed's financial advisors, accountants or manager during all of this? This didn't happen overnight. Why is it so few of us are aware of the process of buying a house and how the offers work?

26. Who would you rather have, someone who doesn't know how much real estate he owns or someone who doesn't know when life begins?

27. I also want to give Donald the benefit of the doubt, though I dont know why. Maybe Donald was trying to do a good thing, but he doesnt want to get too involved in other peoples affairs. *shrugs*

30. McCain and Obama sound like two 12 year olds with their bickering on the "houses" issue. Who gives a rat's azz? This country has SO many problems it's frightening. My Lord, get with and stay with the issues and let all of us know where you REALLY stand!!! Try being honest. Grow up!
