18. What was totally unacceptable in this country 40 years ago is clearly still unacceptable in Malaysia. We have had two whole generations grow up here since the pre-1970 period, and they are unaware completely of the moral system that used to prevail in this country, and even of the laws that used to be in effect against obscenity and pornography. The amazing, brazen lewdness that goes on onstage at many a concert today would have gotten the performers and the entire crew arrested and tossed in jail in the early 60's. So fast has our country fallen from its former innocence, that those of us who have witnessed it have the feeling that we are in an elevator with the cables cut, plummeting out of control towards the awful crash at the bottom. At least in Malaysia they are not having to witness the collapse of their entire societal system, as those of us who are old enough are seeing it here.
