166. Baseball Junkie~ Looking good for you guys so far tonight. Although it is early the Sox are up 5-1. I also see that Tampa won again. How was your matchup with them this season....I mean the series record for the season. I wish TMZ would post some playoff gossip instead of all the politic stuff they have been putting up lately!

167. Jack, It's taken me awhile to get back to you because my daughter was home for the weekend.
Unfortunately, we lost to the Angels tonight (well, this morning) but Tampa lost to Chicago so both series are 2-1.
Tampa beat us 8 - 10 in the head to heads. Lucky for us we do well in the post season. If we face Tampa in the ALCS, I don't think that the season head to head will determine that series.
Sorry, I think I'm toast. I can't seem to form sentences the way I want.

168. Baseball Junkie~ Well congrats to the Sox tonight now you are off to face Tampa. Good luck and I hope you will get to see those games on TV. I told you the Angels were not shoo ins cause of their lack of playoff experience. They completely choked in the series. I really think that the Dodgers are going to beat the Phillies but you never know!

169. Jack, I'm sorry but I'm kinda pulling for the Phillies on this one because Manny and Torre are both pricks. Not to mention DLowe (what he did to his wife is completely unexcusable) I loved the way Manny's RBI effectively got erased. I feel sorry for Nomar because this may be his last chance to actually play in the postseason but I still wouldn't mind facing the Phillies.
And besides, either way you win. The Phillies will get trounced no matter how they play from here on out.
I have a different excuse for not getting back to you sooner. This time I was spending all my time playing around on facebook. You might want to check it out. There's a higher class of clientele (more intelligent, more reasonable, more amusing, etc.).

170. Jack, Well, I'm feeling good. We had trouble all season beating Tampa at home in close games especially when they had a large attendance. So the odds were against us but we won anyway. I'm not going to bet the house that we'll win but it seems much closer than it had.

171. Baseball Junkie~ Congrats again. Seems that Boston is on a roll. I enjoyed the game last night. Looking forward to tonights matchup. I am surprised that the Phillies are up 2-0 on the Dodgers. I thought for sure after sweeping the Cubs they would be playing a little better. As for the Sox-Rays series I think it is going to be a nail biter! I will check back with you later tonight.

172. Baseball Junkie~ BTW I googled facebook it looks a little confusing to me. Maybe I will look further into it after the World Series! Good luck tonight so far the Sox are down 4-3 but its only in the 4th.

173. Jack, It's hours later and I still can't get over last night's game. We were so close. To lose a game to a walkoff is always painful. I think Lester will get us back on track but Wakefield is either very good or very bad. It depends on who he's facing because he does very well if the offense get some runs for him but he seems to give up more runs if the offense is quiet. Almost as if he loses his confidence when he doesn't have a cushion. If Lester AND Wake get us wins then I think Dice-K will finish it off for us but if one of them fail, I wouldn't want to count on Dice-K and I'm not sure Beckett will do anything this post season.
I see your Giants are still one up on us but who knows how things will turn out. :-)

174. Baseball Junkie~ Yeah tough loss last night I knew it was going to be a close series but I can see how you were disappointed. Tampa seems to be tough and wont give up without a fight. It stinks tomorrow because the Giants are on Monday night football and I will be flipping back and forth to check on the Boston game. Looks like the Dodgers are on their way to winning tonights game and the Pats are getting whooped by the Chargers. I am so pleased that both the Cowboys and the Redskins lost today. If the Giants win they would be up 2 on both of them.

175. Baseball Junkie~ I guess you must be on edge now. Dont lose faith yet I am still pulling for the Sox to win the series. It sucks that Tampa won at Fenway but there is still a chance. Hope to hear back from you. I know that the season is over and if the Sox dont get to the series I will probably talk to you next year! Good Luck to Boston. Nice talking to you!

176. Jack, sorry for not getting back to you earlier but I've sort of been not writing so as not to jinx it. Too late. But as you say, wait till next year. It would have been nice to win back to back but for a team that went 86 years between wins we're not going to give up now.
I know you hate the Phillies but I'm sorry, I have to root for them to win the World Series. Just as I did for the Marlins back in 2003. At least I have a slight family connection with the Phillies because my uncle Will, was a Phillies fan. I hate their mascot but I cheer for three team, the Red Sox, whoever beats the Yankees and whoever beat the Rays.

177. Hey Baseball Junkie~ I told you it was going to be a tight series. I was hoping Boston would take it all the way. Sorry but I am not rooting for the Phillies in the series and you have your reasons for wanting Tampa to go down. As a Mets fan I have to go with the A.L. BTW great post on the Manny board this afternoon. What an Assclown he is... Like he didnt tune in to game 7....give me a break! Just wondering where he will be next year. Should be interesting!

178. Jack, I'm still watching the World Series to see who wins but I've decided to focus my attention on other sports. My soccer team in the playoffs but in last night's game which meant nothing in the standings, two of our best players got themselves red carded out of the first game of the playoffs so I have doubts that they'll get beyond this next series.
I'm looking forward to a good season from the Celtics, the Bruins won last night which balances their loss the previous game and I have some hope for the Pats. I don't think Matt Cassell is the new Brady but he'll come into his own.
It's a shame about Brady's knee. He probably should have gone with the team doctor who specializes in the knee surgery. There's always a risk of infection but there will always be questions about the procedure. Should they have waited longer before the surgery to give the knee time to heal, should he have closed the knee as soon as he realized the other tendon wasn't properly healed, should he have gone ahead and tried to repair the other tendon given that he would have to make another incision. I'm afraid this may turnout to be a career ending injury for Brady.

179. BTW, as regards Manny, I think the Dodgers will try to keep him but they probably won't be able to afford him. The Yankees may be able to afford him but he won't fit into their clubhouse at all. Remember how they demanded that Johnny Damon stop clowning around? Besides I've heard a lot of Yankees fans saying they'd rather see a hole in left field than see it filled by Manny. I think there are a lot of teams out there who would like his bat but are leery of taking on a player who only plays if he feels like it. Not to mention makes for a lot of dissension in the clubhouse. Manny's antics and salary expectation may have priced him out of the market or make him a journeyman player. Always traveling from team to team because no one wants to keep him for long. He was an idiot to p*ss off Boston. I think we're one of the few teams and fans that would have put up with him. He really burned his bridges here because once he'd left the fans realized that beneath his charm he was a total @sswipe.
People on some of the Red Sox boards have been pointing out that he never did anything for the charities. It's a big no-no in Boston to fail to support the charities particularly the Jimmy Fund. And in the few cases where he actually did say he was going to do something he pulled out at the last minute.
What we're really worried about is how the negotiations with 'Tek are going. We think he really wants to stay with Boston but his agent is Boras and we all know what a jackass he is. 'Tek is strongminded and will tell Boras to shove it and negotiate on his own of he thinks Boras is jerking him or the team around.
At least we know that management has finalized a deal with Theo. They won't officially announce it until after the World Series but it's a done deal. I think the commissioner should have censured the Yankees for announcing that they weren't offering Torre a new contract before the World Series and the Yankees, Arod and Boras for discussing Arod's negotiations in the press before the Series ended.

180. Baseball Junkie~ That sucks for Tom Brady he is a great quarterback hopefully he will be able to play again. My Giants won again in a nailbiter against the Steelers. Now there is more pressure on Eli Manning after the Giants won the Super Bowl last year. He seems to be getting more comfortable being a leader now. I am watching the World Series now and cannot believe the horrific blown calls by the umpires so far. Why cant they use instant replay like the NFL on certain close calls. I dont think it would delay the length of the game that much. As far as Manny I agree with you that the Yankees would never in a million years even think of picking him up at any price!!! I hope he stays with the Dodgers and keeps his drama in L.A.
