76. Jack, I used to a Mets fan when I lived in New Jersey. I was in 7th grade during the year if the Amazing Mets. Our math teacher who was a Mets fan said at the beginning of the school year that he would give us all As if the Mets won the World Series. I studied anyway but it was nice to be sure I was going to get an A.
When I moved up to Boston and married a man from Maine I switched my allegiance to the Red Sox because women in my family adopt their husband's religion and he, of course, was a Red Sox fan.
I sometimes don't bother with TMZ for days at a time but when I do come on I usually stay on the computer for hours and come back to check out TMZ every so often. As I said I enjoy arguing with people or at least telling them where they are wrong.
I've been listening to my Sox whup the Yankees in their house. As an added bonus, the Blue Jays beat the Rays so we'e gained a game. If we meet again in the World Series, I'm going to be praying it's not a repeat of '86.
Go Sox

77. BTW, Jack. I was happy to see that Arroyo pitching for Cincinnati beat the Dodgers with Manny Ramirez. He may be hitting better now but for a lesser team. How's that peace of mind working out for you, Manny?

78. Hahahahaha I am struggling right now with extra innings while the Mets had a 7-1 lead and blew it!!! But that is their bullpen....Touch and go. Congrats to Boston tonight. Maybe we will meet in the post season! 1986 was a great year indeed for us! I was young back then but remember the series! Philly has the bases loaded with 2 outs in the 11th. How frustrating this is for the Mets if they lose.

79. Actually no hard feelings for Manny.... He wanted out and got it. Now he has to play for a team that will probably not be in the playoffs. I remember last year when the Red Sox offered free tacos from Taco Bell now that was funny!!!! I definately enjoyed that series!

80. Baseball Junkie~ Night to you hope I see you again! The damn Mets lost in 13! I am pissed! Got to get to bed now.

81. Jack, I think it was Taco Bell who offered the tacos as a promotional gimmick. I seem to remember that in a previous postseason they promised tacos if anyone hit a target out in I think San Francisco Bay. The funniest thing was that totally unscripted conversation between the two Red Sox players. I think one of them was Coco Crisp or Jacoby Ellsbury but I'm not sure. And I'm not going to go watch every minute of the ALCS and World Series DVDs to check.
Almost everybody is having trouble with the bullpens this year. Toronto seems to be one of the few teams with a good pitching staff but they don't have much hitting. Although they managed to beat us badly. When Vernon Wells is on his game though they get amazing plays at the plate and the outfield. I wonder when he becomes a free agent.
At least you seem to have some consistent starters in Santana and Pedro. Lester is doing fairly well, Wakefield is great if his knuckleball is knuckling, which depends on the weather, and he gets some run support. Dice-K does well as long as he gets good fielding behind him to clear up his walks. He seems to have one bad inning each start and we hope it will be early on so we have time to recover. Josh Beckett is not the pitcher he was last year. He had some injuries early on this season and may not really have recovered from them. Clay Bucholz looked like a phenom last year but when they started him this season he just couldn't get the job done. And our entire bullpen has a great outing one day and lousy the next. Even Papelbon hasn't been very consistent this year. Still hoping to go all the way but we'll see.
As far as your season last year, I don't think anybody could have gotten past the Rockies in the NLCS. They were just on a tear. But did you hear how lackluster their fans were cheering during the games out there. A very slow "Go.....Rockies". It's no wonder they lost. How could that compete with clap-clap, clap-clap-clap Let's Go Red Sox. It's much faster and far more inspiring.
In addition to our win tonight, it was fun to hear all Yankee stadium roaring with boos every time ARod came up to bat or made an error. Although Manny was dogging it this season, trying to get traded, he still was doing better than ARod with his glove and his bat. I still think we should have sent Manny down to the minors instead of trading him. If we have to pay his salary why should some other team get his services.
So much for today's baseball rant. I hope you'll reply here and on other items. I love a good baseball chat but I don't really know enough to go on the straight baseball chats on MLB and so on. Those guys really know their stats.

82. Baseball Junkie~ Looks like the Yankees are going down fast. As far as the fans booing A-Rod, they boo every player that doesnt perform to their standards. New Yorkers are one of the toughest fans out there. I have seen Billy Wagner getting booed out at Shea everytime he blew a save which has been happening way too much lately with the Mets. On another note I see your "favorite little troll" is at it again on the current boards. You see these "kids" thrive on a reaction. Dont even bother to give it one.

83. Jack, I try not too but I hate it when people think it's me making the stupid racist comments. I've created a boiler plate which I will insert in my comment the first time I notice it commenting on an item where I am.
I'm listening to the Red Sox game now and it's going very nicely. I was satisfied with a 4-2 lead but any inning where we send eleven men up to bat and 6 of them cross the plate is a good one. The idea of having Johnny Damon backing up Abreu is silly. Even if he could have picked it up, he couldn't get it anywhere near the infield. I think Damon has the weakest arm out of all major league outfielders. It wasn't as much of a problem for him when he was with us because we have a smaller outfield and he had Manny as a cut-off man.
Well, we just won 11-3 which is always good. Unfortunately the Rays won in Toronto so we haven't gained any ground.
I see that you're still only 0.5 games back so you still have a chance of winning the division.but if you don't make the division it looks like you don't have much of a chance for the wild card. Well, good luck.

84. Well we won tonight and now are in first place again. Why dont you think we couldnt win the wild card? There is still at least 30 games left.

85. Baseball Junkie~ thanks for responding back to me. I am happy with a Mets win and going to bed. I hope to see you on this item or another board again. Have a good night!

86. Jack, true. I was looking at the stats and thinking about how it's going in the American League. We're seesawing back and forth over 1 game and the teams that are 4 and 5 games back aren't really in contention even with this much of the season left. Particularly here in the East. I should remember that things are different in the National League.
Since you are on the top of your division again I hope you stay there. We still have to win 7 or 8 more games than Tampa to get win ours. Luckily we have experience in winning it all from the wild card. See you in October.

87. Baseball Junkie~ You guys lost a tough game today. I heard the game on the radio and Giambi was clutch. Watch out for Minnesota they are creeping up on you. Those damn Rays keep winning too! Thank god the Mets were off today!

88. Jack, Tell me about it. Lester pitched so well yesterday. He's become our ace with Beckett out (actually, I think he was the ace even before Beckett when on the DL) though Dice-K has been doing well this year. I love Wakefield but he's so iffy. I don't think he ever wins close games like this. Masterson has usually been good out of the pen but he's still too young to be consistent. I wish Okajima was the lights out pitcher he was last year.
At least all the trades we made for position players have turned out well. Jason Bay is fantastic, Kotsay seems to be consistent which is always good Bailey is just starting but seems to be getting better every day (Okay so we brought him up from the minors, but still.)
Have you brought anybody new in lately? I don't pay as much attention to the NL until the post season. I'm looking forward to getting my daughter off to college so I can start going back to the gym. This may sound like a non-sequitor but my gym has direct TV at all the cardio stations and my husband refuses to get it because he thinks I already spend too much time watching TV.

89. Baseball Junkie~Well we scratched out another win tonight and the Phillies lost so we are 2 games up on the division. Our pitching has been depleted with John Maine, ElDuque, Matt Wise, Billy Wagner, Burgos and Armas all on the DL. But our offense is what keeps us in games right now. We also lost Ramon Castro our catcher this week. I see that the Red Sox whooped the White Sox tonight but Tampa and the Yankees both won tonight. Our relievers are Stokes, Smith, Shoeneweis, Sanchez, Heilman, Feliciano, and Ayala who btw got the win tonight.

90. Hey, Jack,
Yeah we both had good games today. I saw from the standings (I keep a window open on MLB.com) that you were now 2 up. If this trend continues we will be seeing each other in the World Series. Of course, we'll have to beat LA first since we're likely to be the wild card but we've done it before. I've heard a lot about Shoeneweis, of course, but I'll have to check out the others. I seem to spend a lot of my time checking stats for someone who has never played fantasy baseball. I find the idea interesting but I don't like to gamble. I think I'm just too cheap to risk the money.
BTW, was that you I saw over on the Van Halen/McCain trying to be the voice of reason? I wish I could believe anyyone listened to you.
