The Duff's Dad Sent to the Slammer

Hilary Duff's dad will be spending up to ten days in jail -- all because of a fight over cash for Hilary's birthday party.

According to Houston Chronicle, mama Duff dragged her ex into court today -- and this is no joke -- to ask for $25,000 to throw a party for Hilary's 21st birthday -- because that's what they spent on Haylie's 21st bday two years ago.

After the judge told Bob he had to shell out $12,500 for the bash -- he decided to sentence Bob to 10 days in jail for contempt of court for selling assets without court approval to the tune of $367,537.

When Bob was cuffed, mama Duff supposedly mumbled "This isn't what I wanted." Apparently all she wanted was a whole lot of money -- something her kids have already made themselves.

31. With America in the worst shape it's ever been and it's people suffering............glad to see the Duff family taking it in stride and going on with their lives. Personally, I don't care how much money someone has, that's a ridiculous amount to spend on a b-day party. I was actually sickened to read this story the same morning I read the story of the little boy in Bangladesh who died because his parents were too poor to afford health care. This is also happening in America people. For all of you who stand on your pedastals and look down at others, saying it's their own fault, I feel sorry for you because karma happens. As for the courts, why they are involved in this in beyond me, Hillary is an adult, so why should her dad be paying for anything for her?? Our judicial system needs an overhaul to get rid of the judges that think they walk on water. Okay I'm done ranting now, have a good day.

32. In response to #10-If I am understanding you correctly, you are saying that her father abandoned his family? Who left? The mother and two girls, to chase a dream. At least the dad had the good sense to stay at home and keep up his job so that he could support all of the dream chasing for his little girls. That's love -not abandonment.

33. HAHAHAHAHA 25k for a party???? How self-centered. This from someone who is idolized by kids everywhere.

Impress me when celebs give something back to the fans and those less fortunate.

In the REAL world support stops at the age of 18. She's turning 21. How many of you over 18 have thrown a birthday party and were mature and responsible enough to pay for it yourself?

If he's hiding his assets, they're over 18!!!! That's an issue between the parents. The *children* won't lose anything. He no longer needs to provide for them, especially when they're more than capable of supporting themselves, until their *careers* bottom out which with this kind of publicity won't be far off

35. This is why more and more everyday I thank the Lord that I have a normal, middle class family that does not let money rule our lives. Going to COURT for this?!?! C'mon

Isnt it about time for Brad and Angie to adopt another kid?

36. Another example of the wonderful child support system in the USA or should I call it what it really is.. The Gold Diggers Club...

Seriously, the girl is going to be 21 and probably has $25000 in her purse as we speak. It's absolutely disgusting that money is that important.

I'm sure the Duff sisters are beyond happy dad is now locked up. Happy B-Day Hillary! Nothing like visiting dad in jail over mom's greed.

37. I really cant believe some of these coments. Who cares if she is rich, left or whatever. THE PROBLEM is why is the JUDGE okay this. THIS is not CHILD SUPORT. Now we why this country is going to hell. Only in America. We need to start taking responsiblity for our actions. The law should not be used for petty crap......truly disgusted with Hollywood.... They sure are not any role models for our children or young adults that will be leading this country.....

38. I totally agree with Samm. Everyone who is commenting here doesnt know hilary or her family. You don't know what goes on in their lives. It doesn't matter if hilary has made millions of dollars. Who pays for a birthday party that is being thrown FOR them? I could understand if SHE was the one throwing the party for herself but she's not. Her mother wants to be fair and do the same thing they did for Haylie. I think Hilary's father needs to stop being a jerk and help with his daughters. Stop talkin crap about Hilary's mom saying she's being "greedy for money" because she's not. She has every right to ask for help when it comes to HIS daughters. And Hilary, her mom, and sister didn't leave the father and run to Hollywood. The girls wanted to get into the business and so Susan wanted to help them make that happen. Bob Duff wanted to say in Texas so he did and HE was the one who started having an affair. Know the facts before you start bashing people. TEAM HILARY

39. Those people should be ashamed of themselves, $50000 on two birthday parties in two years. Just because you have the money doesn't mean you have to spend it like that. Those parties are tacky and so are the people throwing them, have some class for pete's sake.

40. That much money for a party, how tacky. Those people have no class, with the way the world is, they go and spend that type of money for a birthday party, here's a thought, go get a college education, just because your rich doesn't mean you should be ignorant!!

41. Hilary Duff is older than 18 years old. Why on Earth would her father still be financially responsible for her in any way? What kind of court would order a grown man to pay for half of his grown daughter's birthday party?!?!

Posted at 6:54PM on Aug 28th 2008 by Tara

42. ummm...i believe many of us are disgusted more about the amount being spent on the party and the fact that mom took dad to court over it- i personally don't care if it's hilary, brittany, tiger, jessica or samm....25k on a party is sickening!!! it could go a long way toward feeding many hungry children for quite a while....children that may never see 21.
no, i don't know hilary or her family, but my life feels pretty complete, nonetheless. have a good evening :)

43. Cut the woman some slack..at least she's not leaching off her kids or writing books about them! She's getting half the expense of a party for his daughter.Like he gave the othe one!
He should have tossed the money and said happy Birthday to celebrate the end of child support for a kid who has more money than him!hahaha
Now that these kids are older they never have to bother with each other again until someone gets married...
